Her Story

Shirley Ann Sizemore

The life journey of Shirley Ann Sizemore began on March 7th 1937, in Gaffney, SC., where she was born to the late James William Leach and Thelma Tate Leach. She departed this life on Thursday April 1st 2021.

After high school, Shirley studied Cosmetology at the local area vocational school. Upon completing the program she was hired as a full-time cosmetologist by the prestigious Augusta National Golf Club.

Shirley later switched professions to the medical field where she worked in Endoscopy for the Houston County Medical Center in Warner Robins, GA from February 1974 until she retired in December 2000. Over this time span of 25 plus years in public service, Shirley never missed a day of work due to illness. All while raising five kids and taking care of an entire household. She was the true definition of a superwoman.

Shirley was a private person who was deeply rooted in her Christian faith. She was a member of the PWOC (Protestant Women of the Chapel) where she attended weekly Bible study. She devoted a great deal of time to her health and wellness and it was not uncommon to see her adhering to her daily walking routine and partaking in a healthy diet. Her hobbies consisted of sewing and shopping, she single handedly kept Fingerhut in business.

Shirley loved traveling with her family and always kept them entertained with her witty comments. One of her favorite destinations was the beach. It did not matter which beach as long as there was beautiful sand and water. Although Shirley was private, she had an intimate group of friends whom she spent a great deal of time fellowshiping with. Whether it was in the early years having gatherings at one another’s homes playing pinochle, to post retirement vacations setting sail on a cruise, road trips to Biloxi or Tunica for a weekend getaway to visit the local casinos. It goes without saying that her true passion for bowling was on the top of her list and a hobby that she soared in. Shirley bowled in both couples and women’s leagues for most of her adult life. Although Shirley dedicated her professional life to helping others, nothing came before her family. She was the backbone and structure of her family. Her behind the scenes presence was the foundation for keeping everyone all together. Shirley expressed her love through her actions, and was always there no matter what. Her gentle sweet spirit will greatly be missed.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 59 years Daniel Webster Sizemore, and two brothers. She leaves to cherish her memory; Two sons: Mark Leach and wife Joanna of Atascadero, CA and Daniel Webster Sizemore II and wife Felicia of South Fulton, GA.; Three daughters: Shirlene Anita Sizemore of Lathrop, CA, Marjorie Theresa Sizemore of Selma, TX and Danielle Regina Scott and husband Marty of Cibolo, TX; Nine grandchildren: Amber Shaw, Shay Jackson, Jeremy Scott, Alexis Scott, Jazz Sizemore-Hoskins, Cherokee Sizemore-Hoskins, Kennedy Sizemore, Tyce Sizemore, Reagan Sizemore; Three great-grandchildren: Daniel Moore, London Jackson, Johnathan Jackson, Jr.; One bother: Jerry Leach of Gaffney, SC; Two sisters: Lenora Hollis and Peggy Goines both of Gaffney, SC; and a host of nieces nephews, cousins and friends.
