Sylvia Joines was born on May 9, 1954 to the late Adele and Blondell Hogan. She attended and graduated from Peach County High School in Fort Valley, Georgia. She met and married Randolph Scott of Warner Robins, GA in 1975. From this union, one daughter was born, Misty Adele Scott. In 1976, Sylvia migrated to Nashville, TN, where she worked as a Special Education Teacher for the Davidson County School system for over 30 years. She was a member and attended Schrader Lane Church of Christ. Sylvia met and married Joseph Joines of Nashville, TN in 1992. From this union, two daughters were born, Jordyn and Jacqueline Joines. She returned to Byron, GA in 1999 to become the caretaker for her Mother, Adele Hogan, as well as worked for the Houston County School system for 10 years. She joined and attended the Byron Church of Christ in Byron, GA and later pledged membership at Chapel Hill Church of Christ in Macon, GA where she attended faithfully until COVID-19 and then regularly on-line. Being a life-long learner, Sylvia received a Bachelor of Science degree from West Georgia University, a Master of Education degree from the University of Maryland, and then an Education Specialist degree from the University of Phoenix. Sylvia was dedicated to service within her family, school, and community and consistently demonstrated that in her life. Her presence will continue to resonate within all the people she challenged, motivated, and taught throughout her 40 years in education. Her legacy will leave a permanent footprint on her family and friends. Sylvia was well respected and joyfully served God, her family, and her community. Sylvia was always a very loving and giving person and was ready to extend herself whenever anyone needed a helping-hand. She was always willing to provide any and everything needed to uplift people, even at the detriment of her own self-preservation. She was always the “go-to” person for any Family information; better known as the Family Historian. While Sylvia was often seen as very quiet and reserved, she had a “feisty” side and when her horns (zodiac of the bull) came out, you’d better step aside and heed the warning. She loved spending time with Family and looked forward to holidays when everybody would gather to enjoy each other. Her presence, cooking, laughter, support, and overall service will be greatly missed. She was the most-wonderful person you could ever have the pleasure of being around. On May 1, 2022, Sylvia was peacefully called home to the Kingdom of Heaven. Her transition occurred after a happy day of being surrounded by family. She was preceded in death by her parents Adele and Blondell Hogan, and sister, Joyce Hogan. Sylvia leaves to cherish and honor in her loving memory: daughters: Misty Bert (Marvin), Jordyn Joines, and Jacqueline Joines; brothers: Anthony Robinson (LaWanna) and Raymond Hogan (Shelia); sisters: Shirley Davis (Larry Davis-deceased) and Jacqueline Haynes (Johnny); two grandchildren: Kendall and Cheyenne; although she has a host of nieces, nephews, there was one special niece, Holli Hogan, that provided her with an extended amount of love, support, and comfort during the last years of her life; also several special relatives and friends.
