William Alfred “Chief” Geter was born on February 13, 1951, in Rock Hill, South Carolina, to Rachel Geter Anthony and Clinzo Anthony, Sr. He passed away on July 9, 2025. He was preceded by his brothers, Johnny Frank Anthony and Michael Anthony, as well as his sister, Helen Ruth Geter. Master Sergeant William Geter received his education at Edgewood and West End Elementary Schools, Sunset Park Junior High, Emmett Scott and Rock Hill High Schools, and Clinton Junior College, all located in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
He spent his leisure time watching the Pittsburgh Steelers, old Western films, and the television show Bar Rescue.
He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1975 as a Fuel Specialist, serving for 20 years. During his tenure, he received an Honorable Discharge and earned numerous medals and honors, including the Good Conduct Medal, Outstanding Unit Award, Longevity Service Award, Overseas Service Tour Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Bronze Star, and recognition for Supervising Development. He also completed the NCO Leadership School and NCO Academy, and excelled as a Small Arms Expert Marksman. In support of Operations Desert Storm, he was subject to recall to active duty by the Secretary of the Air Force. Following his military retirement, he gained further experience working at Frito-Lay and Groome Transportation.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Geter, with whom he entered into matrimony on May 6, 2013, following their meeting in 2007. He is also survived by his sons, Duanes Geter of Maryland and Brian Geter of West Virginia, as well as his daughter, JaTina Geter of Rock Hill, South Carolina.
He is also remembered by his sisters: Mary Austin, Patricia A. Rose (Ivory), Brenda Hope (George), Frankie A. Snipes (Lloyd), Angela Sherer (Timothy) of Rock Hill, SC, Janice Anthony of New York; his brother, Clinzo Anthony Jr. of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren Kennedy and Quentin Geter (Maryland), Destinee Pearson (Lithia Springs, GA), Bre’ Asia and A’niyah Pearson (Macon, GA); great-granddaughter Samiya Hall (Lithia Springs, GA); stepchildren Achala Pearson (Lithia Springs, GA) and Aldan Pearson (Macon, GA); and many devoted family and friends.
