Funeral Services for Mae Reather Davis - 66, were held Saturday, May 9, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Unity Springs Baptist Church in Dekalb, MS.
Burial followed in the Unity Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Jason Franklin officiated the services.
Mae Reather "Rea" Davis was born on June 29, 1959, to the late Jefferson Davis and Mable Griffin Davis in Dekalb, Mississippi.
Rea spent her entire life in Kemper County and attended Kemper County School.
Early in her youth, she joined Unity Springs Baptist Church and remained a faithful member until her passing. She was supportive of her church with her attendance, her finances, her skillful cooking and any need she could fulfill.
Having been reared by protective and loving parents, Rea had a heart filled with love and she always expressed her love for her brothers and sisters as well as for her nieces and nephews.
Even though she had no children of her own, she had such a heart of compassion that it brought joy to her heart to have played a part in the rearing of 18 of her nieces and nephews.
Rea was an excellent cook, and she considered it a pleasure to cook for her family, many of her other relatives and friends, who would come by and share in the abundance of food that she and her sister so often prepared. She made everybody welcome whether they had been invited or not.
Rea enjoyed the simple things of life. One of which was her love for flowers and that could be seen in the beautiful flower beds and pots on her lawn. Another favorite of hers was bargain hunting and taking advantage of sales in stores.
One writer said, "Home is where the heart is." That seemed to be true with our beloved Rea because there were many times when parts of the family traveled out of town and she stayed home.
She had a God-given talent and sympathetic heart for caring for the sick. She was the caretaker for both of her parents and even for fellow church members.
It can be said:May the work that she did speak for her".
Mae Reather Davis is preceded in death by Father Jefferson Davis and Mother Mable Davis, three sisters Curlee Mae Jones, Johnnie Mae Clemons, and Bessie Lee Davis, two bothers Cleo Davis, and Herbert Davis. Two sister-in-laws Arzarine Davis and Brenda B. Davis. One bother-in-law Charlie Jones., and a nephew Charlie Jones Jr.
