Obituary For James D. Nash

James Dan Nash, known to many as “J.D.”, entered the world on November 22, 1949, in Kosciusko, Mississippi, as the firstborn son in his family. From the very beginning, his life reflected the quiet strength, responsibility, and warmth that would come to define his legacy.

J.D.’s early years were rooted in family, education, and community. He attended Kansas Elementary School and graduated from Carver High School in 1970. His interest in learning extended beyond the classroom. He later attended Memphis State University, where he continued his educational journey. Through determination and perseverance, he learned to drive trucks and developed a lasting career as a truck driver. He later continued that work with Cleo Wrap, building a steady and dependable livelihood.

Faith played a quiet but steady role in J.D.’s life. As a child, he attended New Salem Baptist Church with his grandmother, Louise Pittman. Later in life, he became a member of the Temple of Deliverance Church of God in Christ, remaining connected to his spiritual foundation throughout the years.

On June 18, 2026, J.D. peacefully transitioned from this life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Doris Pittman, Dan Nash, Jr., stepmother, Pearlie C, Nash, and stepfather, A.B. Galloway; his grandparents, Louise and Robert Lee Pittman; brothers, Standley L. Nash and James A. Riley; and sisters, Dorothy Kate Riley and Mamie Riley.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved wife of fifty-two years, Denise Nash; one son, Terries Terrell Nash; one daughter, Tamika Denise Nash-Heyser; one son-in-law, Dr. Van DeAngelo Heyser; grandchildren, Kairee Kentajh Nash, Christian Latrice Heyser-Price (Lee), Alexis Victoria Heyser, Ashley Marie Heyser, Van D. Heyser II, Zachary Phillip Heyser, and Taneya Sharelle Cooper; siblings, Jerry Pittman, Dorothy Mae Nash-Kennedy, Diane Pittman, Ella Pearl Nash-Fisher, Serita Nash-Reed, Tammy Nash, and Dyann Riley; in-laws, Darryl Fisher and Selwyn Reed; his life-long best friend, Larry Donald; along with a host of cherished family and dear friends.
