My name is Jeanera Brazil Lowry. It is my understanding that Luther was my father's cousin. I extend my deepest sympathies to the family. The world has lost a "creative". I am even sadder that I didn't ever get to meet him. We could've exchanged art observations. And I would've asked him what his inspiration was. In any event, when I visit the National Cemetery where he is honored with a space, I will thank him for his service to this Country and for his contributions to the world of art and expression. "Every artist born comes with a message inspired from above."
I met Luther outside of BB King's Restaurant in May, 2023, viewed some of his artwork and was so impressed by his talent, kindness and personality. I was so saddened to hear of his passing, and my prayers go out to his family. His photo along with two of his drawings are framed and on display in my living room, in memory of this special artist and sweet man. S. I met Luther almost 51 years ago. He and my brother James Waddell, now deceased were best friends, both artists, and both after years past were given special recognition for their artistry. My brother greatly respected Luther's unique style in sculpture and adopted his own unique style under mentorship of his friend. Luther was given a spirit and soul that left a mark in your memory whenever you thought of him. He gave me the impression that everything he said was intentional and something to remember him by. His art to me portrayed the gentle and profound soul that God gave him. I say to the family: may the presence of the peace that Luther was given by God be "your peace" in your times of remembering Luther.
Luther Hampton is my brother in-law, I met him when I was 10 or 11 years old, our family moved into the same neighborhood, just one street over from the Hamptons. Luther met and fell in love with my sister (Judy), it was love at first sight. Luther promised Judy that one day she would be his wife, he honored that commitment on September 16, 1965, when he took her as his wife. Our family will always love Luther. Sincerely, Dorothy Yancey-Morgan (Sister In-Law)
