My condolences to your family during this difficult time. (PNH student)
So sad to here of your passing, you were not only a teacher to our kids in Pontiac, but also a mentor and father, a great friend to me and many of the parents too, thank you for all you did for our kids and community, you will be greatly missed. Linda Williams, Jamar Williams mom.
Mr. Martin was my band teacher my freshman year at Stratford HS. That year I decided I wanted to play the flute. I knew nothing about reading music or playing a musical instrument. Mr. Martin was so kind and very patient with me trying to learn to play this instrument. We would come in early to have some practice time, I would go during lunch and sometimes even after school...I just NEVER could play that dang flute. Then the spring concert rolls around. He pulls me aside to tell just "pretend to play and you will get an A". That is the my favorite memory from high school. Although I never mastered playing the flute he was such a kind man that showed compassion and grace to me.
Words can't express how I feel, I think back to my first day of band camp and I showed up in slides lol, you never let me live that down. You became a father figure and taught how to lead and if it had not been for you and the band I would not have graduated. YOU ARE ONE OF A KIND! Much love Antonio (Tony) Rucker C/O 97 SHS!
To the greatest band teacher, educator, leader, mentor, and role model—the man we were lucky to call Dad—your impact on Pontiac and all of us who had the privilege of learning from you will be felt forever. You weren't just our teacher; you were our guide, our inspiration, and the heartbeat of our community.
Thank you for showing us there's a world beyond Pontiac and encouraging us to explore it. Thank you for pushing us beyond our comfort zones and teaching us what it means to stand together—not just as a band, but as a family. Your kindness, passion, and unwavering belief in each of us have left a mark that will never fade. You are truly going to be missed.
Our staff will continue to keep your family in our prayers. We thank you for allowing us to serve your family.
