Remembering Joanne McCrorey
Surrounded by family, Joanne McCrorey of Rock Hill, SC, transitioned on July 20, 2025, at the home of her daughter, Darlene Canty, in Bowie, Maryland. She was born on June 3, 1946, the eighth of nine children to the late Roosevelt and Bessie Wylie McCrorey. Joanne attended public schools in York County and graduated from Emmett Scott High School in Rock Hill, SC, in 1966.
In the late 1970s, Joanne found spiritual fulfillment at Weeping Mary Baptist Church, where she became a cherished member of the Gospel Choir. Her love for music and singing carried her across the states of South and North Carolina. In her lifetime, she participated in thousands of gospel choir anniversaries across these southern states. Joanne was known for her dynamic and soul-stirring singing of songs like "Dr. Jesus," "Three Pictures of the Lord," "This Is a Lonesome Road," "Tell Me How Long," and "I'm Just a Nobody Trying to Tell Everybody About Somebody Who Can Save Anybody." Her life was a testament to resilience, faith, hope, and love.
Please join the family on Friday, August 1st, at New Hope United Methodist Church in Rock Hill for a musical celebration starting at 6:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at Weeping Mary Baptist Church in Rock Hill, SC, at 2:00 p.m., and the visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. The family plans to receive well-wishers at the home of Charlene Canty, 1240 Shenandoah Circle, Rock Hill, SC.
