Obituary For David G. Mantovani

Mr. David Gerard “Hondo” Mantovani passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, December 13, 2018 in Lantana, TX at the age of 59.

Dave is survived by his daughter, Viviana Mantovani; his sons, Ignacio (Rhea) Mantovani and Victor (Marcela) Mantovani; and his four grandchildren, Nicole Mantovani, Armando Mantovani, Vincenzo Mantovani, Isabella Mantovani, and former spouse Lina Mantovani.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Aloysius F. "Lou" Mantovani and Margaret R. Mantovani. Dave was born on July 15, 1959 in Joliet, IL. He graduated from Joliet Catholic High School in 1978 and from Northwestern University with a degree in Political Science and Economics in 1982. He married Lina Ponte on July 7, 1990 at St. Teresa Catholic Church. After moving to Titusville, Florida, Dave began a 36 year career ranging from US Government and Space programs in Florida, to Commercial Software development in Texas and more recently, Condominium Real Estate investments in Florida.

In his final years, Dave devoted his time to his four Grandchildren while catching a round of golf and a football game in between. A wake is scheduled for Saturday, December 22 at 2:00 p.m. at People’s Funeral Home, 1122 E Mulberry St, Denton, TX 76205, with a reception to follow at Lantana Golf Club, 800 Golf Club Dr, Argyle, TX 76226. My Uncle Dave was one of the most influential people in my life. He was the consummate cool uncle, who bought french fries when no one else would. I got to know him so well from my month long visit as a 14 yr old flying to Cocoa Beach...to flying to Dallas as an Air Force Colonel to grab some BBQ with him. I miss him dearly.

We first Dave in 1984 at General Dynamics where we worked for the DSD organization. Dave later moved into the same apartment complex we lived in with his Sheltie named Charlie. He became a family friend and we stayed in touch over the years. We just recently enjoyed a Texas Rangers baseball game together in Arlington. He was always a kind person and he will be missed by everyone that knew him.

Dave was a friend of my family. He was a mentor and my hockey buddy. I will miss him. He always spoke lovingly of his family. He shared advice and coached me in many aspects of my career. It is very sad to lose him at such a young age. Love you buddy. David, Jenna and Nora Lee.

David and I were both at DSC in Plano in 1996, and worked together on a number of products at Cisco in Austin from 1999 to 2005. We remained friends thereafter, meeting up on golf courses in Texas and later in Arkansas. While I hadn't seen him since he visited us on his way to Branson in 2016, we did keep in touch. I was glad to see that he was able to travel the globe in the past couple of years. I'll miss him!

David and I worked at four different times in our careers. I've known him since early 80's. No matter how far we moved away and how long we haven't met up, we picked up right where we left off. He always made a point to reach out messaging and phone to his friends to meet up, and go do things. The last "BIG" one for me was going to the Who 50 year concert a couple years ago. I/we were blessed to have Dave part of our lives. He showed us how to get the most our of life.. Loved that man, and will miss him dearly... RIP Dave
