Alma Lee Massenburg McLemore entered eternal rest on Friday, October 2, 2026. Alma was born on March 22, 1944, to the late Zannie Massenburg and Lillie Dickens Massenburg. She was raised in the St. John Community and attended St. John Missionary Baptist church.
Alma was educated in the Jackson County public school system. She went on to study Elementary Education at Florida A&M University, where she proudly graduated with the Class of 1965. She taught second grade and Special Education in Colquitt, Georgia, for nearly 16 years. After returning to Marianna, she continued her career at Sunland, where she worked for 14 1/2 years. Upon retiring, Alma lived in the Fort Walton Beach-Crestview area for a time before spending the last 16 years of her life in Tallahassee, Florida.
She was a devoted mother and a wonderful grandmother and great-grandmother. She was an avid reader who loved spending time at the library and browsing local bookstores.
Alma leaves a legacy of fond memories and cherished thoughts with her family: daughters, Lisa (Grady) Snell, LaToya (Cedric) Paul, and Miriam McLemore; her cherished grandchildren, Travis (Deborah) Pender, Ashley (Anthony) Reynolds, Dominique Snell, Grady Snell IV, Madison Paul, and Alana Snell; great-grandchildren; Sister, Barbara (Charles) Golphin; Nephew, Charles Golphin II; nieces, Missy Massenburg and Olympia Massenburg and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Kenneth Massenburg; her beloved uncles, Spencer Bellamy and Simmon Massenburg, Jr.; and her dear aunts, Essie Bellamy and Virginia Gardner.
