A beautiful life began on January 1, 1955, for Dr. Carolyn Yvonne Black Marshall in Marianna, Florida to Nellie Garrett Black and the late Aaron Black. She entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, January 22, 2019, in Miramar, Florida, with her beloved family at her side. She was 64 years old.
She was reared in the Poplar Springs Community where she confessed Christ and joined Poplar Springs Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. S.D. Dickens. She was very active in the choir and youth department.
During her early years, she attended Jackson County Training School and furthered her education at Chipola Junior College. She, along with her husband Dr. Fred Marshall, enjoyed traveling and evangelizing throughout the United States. InMay 1996, she became an ordained Pastor in which she and her husband founded Souls Harvest Christian Center North in Hallandale Beach, Florida and inAugust 2000, they established Souls Harvest Christian Center South in Miami, Florida. In addition, they also established another ministry in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Dr. Carolyn held employment with Sunland and Dade County Public Schools in Miami, Florida. She retired from the State of Florida and began ministry work full time. She was owner of Carolina’s Fashions in Marianna for 16 years, providing the women of Jackson County and surrounding areas with the latest trends in fashion. Dr. Carolyn also founded and established Women of Integrity Outreach Ministry in the cities of Miami, Marianna and Hallandale Beach, Florida. In 2015, she along with her husband started Souls Harvest Christian School of Theology and became Chancellors. She obtained her Doctorate of Theology in 2016 from the Lord’s Outreach School of Theology. In 2017, she reached a momentous milestone by obtaining her PHD in Theology. She leaves to cherish her precious memories with: her husband, Dr. Fred Marshall of Miramar, Florida, mother, Nellie Garrett Black of Marianna, Florida; seven children, Marvelle Pittman and wife Jenika of Port St. Lucie, florida, Markita Pittman (Tyonne) of Miami, Florida, Clarence Pittman Jr. (Simone) of Miami, Florida, Shawn Mitchell (Samuel) of Dallas, Texas, Lakeisha Marshall of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Nicole Policarpe (William) of Miami, Florida and Timothy Marshall (Shay) of Port St. Lucie, Florida; four sisters, Gwendolyn Grant, Verdia Dixon, Belinda Long and Jeanne Wooden and husband Jeffrey; 18 grandchildren and three great grandchildren; one aunt, Bessie Pittman of Greenwood, Florida; one uncle, Coley Garrett Jr. of Miami, Florida; mother-in-law, Eunice Richardson of Pensacola, Florida; one sister-in-law, Levon Richardson of Maryland; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
A homegoing celebration will be celebrated on Saturday,February 2ndat 11a.m. at Sunrise Worship Center (Old Evangel) with Dr. Fred Marshall, Pastor Freddie Roulhac, Pastor Leroy Hall, Pastor Frankie Freeman and Pastor Stephen Andrews officiating. Interment will follow in the Poplar Springs Church Cemetery with arrangements entrusted to the Caring Staff at Peoples Funeral Home of Marianna.
