On January 28, 2021, Joe Ann Middleton returned home peacefully to be with the Lord. She received the gift of life on October 1, 1958, in Panama City, Florida to her loving parents, James and Millie Middleton.
Joe Ann, her sisters and brothers enjoyed bonding and helping their parents with numerous house chores. The Middleton Family was resourceful and progressive, and they made a mark on behalf of the black people in their community. Her father, James, was the first black person in the area to drive the city bus and was most notably known for preaching. Her mother, Millie, was a retired educator who relished in caring for her family. Joe Ann Middleton was an intelligent and advanced student. She graduated at the top of her class at the age of 16 from Warrensville Heights High School in Warrensville Heights, Ohio. Joe Ann was a gifted seamstress and model and was passionate about children. She earned an Associates in Science with a Concentration in Child Development and Education from Miami Dade College in Miami, Florida. After graduating, Joe Ann pursued a Bachelor of Arts with a passion for modeling and fashion design.
While pursuing her education, Joe Ann worked at several financial institutions to pay for college. During her free time, Joe Ann was active in her local church and enjoyed volunteering. Her daughter, Kathi was born in 1982. Joe Ann was a loving grandmother, mother, daughter, and sister. She had a witty sense of humor and relished in making her family and friends laugh. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Joe Ann Middleton is survived by her daughter; Kathi Middleton, her granddaughter Christina Berry; and her siblings; Gazette Burke (Larry), Mary Ann Middleton, James Middleton (Debra), Leon Middleton (Bernice/deceased), Alfred Middleton (Carolyn), Willie Middleton (Eddie), and Marvette Middleton. She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Millie Middleton, and her brother David Middleton; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Those wishing to send flowers can have them delivered to New Beginnings Assembly of the Saints, 662 Cone Avenue - Panama City or to Peoples Funeral Home, 2876 Orange Street - Marianna.
The family will receive friends at New Beginnings Assembly of the Saints on Friday, February 12th from 2-5p.m.
A homegoing celebration will be held graveside Saturday, February 13th at 1p.m. at Hillside Cemetery in Panama City. Interment will follow with arrangements entrusted to`the Caring Staff at Peoples Funeral Home of Marianna.
