Ms. Essie Mae Brown of Greenwood transitioned from life to eternal rest on Thursday, March 23rd at Marianna Health & Rehabilitation Center with her caring and devoted family at her side. She was 86 years of age.
She was of the Baptist faith and a member of Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church. She was very active in the church before her health declined. She was also in the Senior Women’s Ministry.
She leaves a lifetime of love and treasured memories with three caring and devoted sons, Melvin Long of Marianna, Florida, Dennis Brown and wife Sherry and Mitchell Brown and wife Ann both of Greenwood, Florida; six sisters, Arlevia Taylor of Atlanta, Georgia, Willie Mae Bernard of Citrus, Florida, Jessie Williams and husband Steven of Hempsted, New York, Martha Pollocks of Marianna, Florida, Jennie Williams and husband Richard of Atlanta, Georgia and Alberta Milton and husband Nathaniel of Hinesville, Georgia; two brothers, George Williams of Orlando, Florida and Willie Williams and wife Pauline of Miami, Florida; sister-in-law, Herley McNealy of Brooklyn, New York; brothers-in-law, Matthew Bradley of Miami, Florida, Robert Brown and wife Eva of Marianna, Florida, Roosevelt Brown of Brooklyn, New York and Mack Brown of Newark, New Jersey; five grandchildren, Brandon Long and wife Syreeta of Tallahassee, Florida, Quentin Brown and wife Denea of St. Petersburg, Florida, Alexandria Green and husband Sean of Greenwood, Florida, Monarious Brown of Bristol, Florida and Montoya Garrett of Bristol, Florida; three great grandchildren, Skylar Long of Tallahassee, Florida, Kamilli Brown of St. Petersburg, Florida and Lauryn Green of Greenwood, Florida; two goddaughters, Cynthia Border of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and Pamela Thomas of Marianna, Florida; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
A Homegoing Celebration will be held Saturday, April 1st at 1p.m. at Second West Missionary Baptist Association Church with Moderator Riley J. Henderson, Reverend Freddie Roulhac, Reverend Wallace Godwin, Reverend Dwight Cockerham, Sr and Reverend Anthony Granberry officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Tabor Church Cemetery with arrangements entrusted to the Caring Staff at Peoples Funeral Home of Marianna, FL.
Family visitation will be held on Friday, March 31, 2023 from 5 to 7 pm at Second West Missionary Baptist Association Church located at 4110 Herring Avenue in Marianna, FL.
