Henry Lamar Curry was born on March 26, 1978, to Martha Calhoun Curry and the late Henry Lee Curry. His earthly journey concluded on November 21, 2025, at Grady Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. Though just 47 years old, Lamar lived a life that outpaced time itself โ full, expansive, and marked by a curiosity that carried him far beyond the borders of the world he was born into. He traveled the globe, created family everywhere he went, and stitched memories across continents that most people only dream of seeing.
As a child, Lamar had an early gift, a natural understanding of how things worked and how to make them work better. That curiosity showed up in the way he fixed small appliances around the house, the way he tinkered, the way he figured things out simply because his mind needed answers. After graduating from the Jackson Academy of Applied Technology in 1996, Lamar realized that Northwest Florida could no longer contain the scale of his imagination. At 18, he joined a telecommunications firm, and that opportunity struck the match that would burn brilliantly for the rest of his life. It ignited his lifelong calling: to see the world, taste its cultures, and make every corner of it feel a little more like home.
Lamar later spent nearly twenty years with Delta Air Lines in a wide range of logistics and supply-chain roles, but titles never quite captured him. His truest occupation was that of a world traveler. Lamar didn't just go places; he experienced them and was transformed by them. His passport stayed warm, telling of adventures to Amsterdam, Paris, Brazil, Jamaica, South Africa, Japan, Virgin Islands, Dubai, and Puerto Ricoโto name a few.
Travel wasn't something Lamar did. It was who he was. The world was his backyard, and he walked through it with ease, joy, and curiosity that never dimmed. And despite all the miles he traveled, Atlanta was where he planted roots and built a life that reflected his growth, independence, and dreams.
Even with all the stamps on his passport, Lamar's heart never wandered far from his family, especially Momma. Their connection was its own kind of compass, always pointing him back to love, gratitude, and the woman who shaped him. And as we reflect on Lamar's journey, we also honor the family whose love shaped him from the very beginning.
Lamar was preceded in death by his father, Henry Curry; his maternal grandparents, Pearline and Richard Calhoun; his paternal grandparents, Maggie and Permon Curry Sr.; his sister, Miranda Curry; and his brother, Shiron Gammons.
He leaves to cherish his memory a devoted mother, Martha Curry; his brother and sister in love, Elliott and Quiana Curry, along with his nephew, Luke, and niece, Ella; his sister, Brittany Curry, and nephew, KaMarion Kirkland; and his nephew, Alex Johnson, and niece, Zola. Lamar's life was shaped by a village of aunts and uncles who poured into him from childhood into adulthood.
While there are far too many first cousins to list by name, Lamar's special bond with his cousin Faith Kpandee was unmistakable. And because he spent nearly half of his life in the Atlanta area, Lamar forged a powerful community of friends who became family.
You journeyed farther than most ever dreamed, crossing oceans and soaring across the sky with a spirit that never stopped moving. Now you rest in the arms of your father, and we hold tight to the laughter and light you leave behind. Rest, Lamar. Your earthly journey is complete.
Our most sincere condolences to Mother Marta and family.
