Celeste Leona Myrick was born on March 19, 1956 to the late Qually Spencer, Jr and Gehazel Sims in Greenwood, Florida. She graduated from Marianna High School in 1975. She accepted Christ at an early age and was an active member of Mt. Tabor Missionary Church where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, served as a youth advisor, drove the church bus, and sang in the choir. She worked for many years as a pharmacist technician at Sunland and Florida State Hospital. Most recently, she served as a health aide at Jackson Alternative School for the Jackson County School Board. She also worked in different capacities at Peoples Funeral Home for more than 40 years.
Celeste was affectionately known as “Auntie Let” and “Big Tee” to many people related and not related. She opened her heart and her home to many throughout the years. She would often proclaim and demonstrate her love and affection for the elderly and children. While she could be a strict disciplinarian, she had a huge heart for children and could be found coordinating game nights, sleepovers, bike rides, and arts and craft projects. As her own children grew up, she became very involved at Marianna High School working concession stands, starting and supporting the pep squad known as the Bulldolls, chaperoning events, and simply being a support for many youth. She was recognized by the Marianna High School Class of 1996 as “Mother of the Year.” Celeste loved to help others, especially in their time of need. A true highlight of her life was becoming a grandmother, and she truly cherished her title as “Mimi” to her two grandsons. She did not hesitate to talk about her grandsons to anyone who would listen. Service was her love language and she served others abundantly. She took care of and advocated for those perceived as less than and believed everyone should have someone to care for them.
