Mrs. Verna E. Montgomery was born on September 21, 1936, to Ike Hearns and Clara Bell Hearns in Greenwood, Florida. On January 22, 2025, at the Marianna Health & Rehabilitation Center, she answered her Master's call; she took his hand and left it all.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ike and Clara Bell Hearns; husband, Ted Montgomery; and four brothers, seven sisters, and her pets, Amber and Princess.
Verna met and married the love of her life, Theodore “Ted” Montgomery, in 1957, and they traveled abroad during his military career, making Colorado Springs, Colorado, their final home. In November of 2024, Verna made the decision to move home to Florida to live with her niece and nephew, Mary and Dale Gammons. She had the opportunity to enjoy Thanksgiving, Christmas, and see the New Year come in with her family.
Verna is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and sorrowing friends.
Local funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at 12:00 noon at the Peoples Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Gino Mayo officiating and services directed by the caring staff of Peoples Funeral Home of Marianna, FL.
Interment will be held at a later date in Colorado Springs, Colorado where she will be laid to rest next to her husband Mr. Theodore “Ted” Montgomery in the Pikes Peak National Cemetery located in El Paso County, Colorado under the direction of Mr. Franklin McCulley at Angelus Chapel Funeral Directors, Inc.
