Ms. Ernestine Wynn Gainer-Scott of Los Angeles, California and formerly of Cottondale, Florida transitioned from life to eternal rest at home surrounded by her family on January 1, 2025. She was 75 years old.
Ernestine was born on April 20, 1949, in Marianna, Florida, to Benjamin F. Gainer and Stella Wynn Gainer.
She embraced a life filled with love, faith, and service, leaving a legacy of kindness and devotion. As a young woman, Ernestine married Arthur Johnson, and they welcomed a daughter, Sandra Johnson. Later, she married Charles Earl Collins, with whom she had two children, Carliss Michelle Holmes and Charles Earl Collins Jr. In her later years, she married Timothy Scott.
In the late 1970s, Ernestine relocated with her family to Los Angeles, California, where she built a fulfilling career caring first for the elderly and later for the youth.
Ernestine accepted Christ at an early age and devoted her life to serving the Lord. She became a passionate prayer warrior and Evangelist at Heavenly Vision Church of God in Christ in Los Angeles. Her ministry extended beyond the church walls as she spread the Word of God through prayer missions in downtown Los Angeles, as well as outreach to prisons and missions. Ernestine also shared her faith as a guest on local radio and cable television broadcasts.
Ernestine leaves behind cherished memories for her family: her brothers, John Gainer of Sacramento, California, and Nathan Gainer (Regina) of Somerset, New Jersey; her beloved daughters, Sandra Johnson and Carliss Holmes, and her beloved son, Charles Earl Collins Jr., all of Los Angeles, California; her grandchildren, Devin Gabourel, Taytiana Collins, and Keiana Collins; her aunt, Inez White of Marianna, Florida; her prior husbands, Arthur Johnson, Charles Earl Collins, and Timothy Scott; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Ernestine touched countless lives with her faith, warmth, and selflessness. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
A public viewing will be Friday, January 17th at Peoples Funeral Home Chapel from 3-6pm. Honoring the of Life of Ernestine will be Saturday, January 18th at 2pm at Bethlehem AME Church with Pastor Carl Hill, Reverend Regina Gainer, Kashawnda Gainer and Reverend Dr. Nathan Gainer officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with arrangements entrusted to the Caring Staff at Peoples Funeral Home of Marianna.
