Mrs. Addie Lamb, passed away Thursday, November 24, 2022 at Liberty Commons. Funeral will be held Saturday, December 3, 2022 12 pm Union Memorial United Methodist Church. 11:30 am Visitation.
Addie Mae Cummings Lamb, a loved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, and a devoted teacher passed away on November 24, 2022. Addie resided at 903 Ross Avenue, Greensboro, North Carolina for 62 years until she moved to Liberty Commons Nursing Center in Burlington, North Carolina to be near her sister “Teen” in 2018.
A native North Carolinian, Addie was the fifth daughter born to Ernest and Addie Cummings on March 28, 1926. Addie was a 1945 graduate of Sedalia Public School where she was valedictorian of her graduating class. She was a 1950 graduate of North Carolina Agricultural and Technical College (now University) where she received a B.S. Degree in Education. In 1972, Addie received a M.A. Degree in Education.
Addie enjoyed a distinguished 31-year career as an elementary school teacher with the Guilford County North Carolina School System. Her years were served at the Sedalia and McLeansville Elementary Schools.
As a young adult, Addie joined Union Memorial United Methodist Church (UMUMC). There she worshipped with her family, her husband, Albert Lamb, and her daughter Ellen. At UMUMC, Addie served as Sunday School Superintendent, Chairwoman of the Pastor Parrish committee, Member of the Trustee Board, United Methodist Women-Group 2, Treasurer, Secretary, Member of the Chancel Choir, and Chairperson of Worship.
Addie was a member of the Greensboro Retired Teachers Club, the Greensboro Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and the North Carolina A&T State University Gate City Alumni Association.
Addie was a kind and caring person. She was a person who performed many deeds for whom few people were ever aware.
Addie was known to her nieces and nephews as a straightforward, hands-on Aunt. Aunt Mae did not mind giving her point of view or opinion with the pointed finger to emphasize her point. Hence, she was given endearing names like “Johnny Cash” and “the Blade”.
Addie was preceded in death by her husband: Albert; her grandson: David; and her daughter: Ellen Chavis. She is survived by her granddaughter: Damita Chavis and son-in-law: Valdez Chavis both of Jacksonville, Florida. The Cummings Sister Circle is now complete as she joins Eunice Turner, Deloris Smith, Daisy Scott, Louise Benton, Mabel Martin, Mildred Crawford, Helen Cummings, and her dear brother/nephew Eugene Cummings who all preceded her in death.
Addie will be truly missed by her nephews, nieces, cousins, church members, and friends.
One of the best personal friendships of my early adult life. Rest in peace my mother in Christ.

Absolutely one of the most caring, compassionate and skilled teachers I had throughout my education. Mrs. Lamb never settled for less than excellent in every student and earned the highest honor of respect from all who knew and loved her. Her memory will always be inspirational for me.
