Obituary For Alejandro Porter White, Ph.D.

Alejandro Porter White (Ale), the youngest child of James Ivey and Lucy Cheston White, was born January 15, 1980 in Greensboro, North Carolina. In the cool of the evening on February 2, 2021, in Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, at the age of 41, God spoke to Alejandro and said, “My son, it is time for you to come home. You have fought a good fight and now your journey is complete.” Alejandro grew up in Greensboro, North Carolina in a loving caring family. He received his early education at Alamance Elementary and Southeast Middle Schools, and the James B. Dudley High School Academy in Greensboro, North Carolina. Alejandro excelled in both academics and athletics to include baseball, football and track. He graduated with honors in June 1998. Ale was member of Providence Baptist Church. He was an usher; he sang in the youth choir and participated in several other organizations.

In August 1998, Alejandro enrolled in North Carolina A.& T. State University, Greensboro, North Carolina, to pursue his studies in electrical engineering and applied mathematics. In 2003 and 2004, he received his Bachelor of Science Degrees in Electrical Engineering and Applied Mathematics from North Carolina A.&T. State University. He continued his education in engineering at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University where he received his Master of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering in 2007. In 2013, Alejandro returned to North Carolina A.&T. State University to further his graduate studies and earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering in 2018. As a well-accomplished researcher, he joined the United States Army Research Laboratory to conduct his postdoctoral studies in 2019. Throughout his studies and career, Alejandro received numerous awards to include Outstanding Graduate Researcher, TECHLAV DoD Center of Excellence, 2007, and published many articles in his field of expertise. https://www.accesslab.net/people/former/alejandro-white; https://misr.ipl.nasa.gov/Mission/valwork/val_reports/konza99/99konza_mch.html Alejandro, was employed by the United State Government at the ACCESS Laboratory TECHLAV center at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland. He was soft-spoken and easy going with a great sense of humor. He was also known for his patience, dedication, caring and respecting of others. Ali loved to play video games with his son and his nephews. He designed robots for the children. Additionally, he loved to play basketball with his son, Joseph and his nephews, Daryl II, (Little Daryl), R.J. and his brothers and to engage his many cousins in conversation and laughter. To cherish his memory, Ale leaves to mourn: his son, Joseph Alexander Harrison of Winston Salem, North Carolina; his loving parents, James Ivey and Lucy Cheston White of Greensboro, North Carolina; one sister, Dr. Mayisha White Dunham (Charles) of Clemmons, North Carolina; two brothers, Reginald Cheston (Cheryl) and Daryl White of Greensboro, North Carolina; three nieces, Kayla Elizabeth Cheston, Ella Grace Dunham, Ivey Michelle Dunham and three nephews; Daryl White II, (Little Daryl), Reginald Delano Cheston, II (RJ), and John Lucas Dunham, who loved their uncle dearly and will miss the fun times they enjoyed with him. In addition, he leaves to mourn his aunts who will miss his quiet demeanor and sense of humor and giving him great advice to carry him forward: Geraldine Cheston Sims of Greensboro, North Carolina, Ella White Goudia of Garyville, Louisiana, Nettie Cheston Williams (Allan) of Weddington, North Carolina, Wilma Cheston Wille (Clarence) of Bolivia, North Carolina and one uncle, Cleveland Cheston of Chicago, Illinois, a special cousin Annie Patricia Cheston ((Trish), and a host of cousins, friends and classmates. Dr. Alejandro Porter White, your accomplishments and contributions to society will precede your dreams of things to come. Your life speaks volumes in earthly books. Now you have joined the heavenly hosts to finish your journey there. Live on our father, our son, our brother, our uncle, our friend, our scholar, and our advocate for the cause!!! May you rest in peace with the Lord. Viewing will take place Sunday, February 14, 2021 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home in Greensboro, North Carolina, followed by a private funeral service for family and friends on Monday, February 15, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a scholarship has been created in memory of Dr. Alejandro Porter White for future electrical engineering students attending North Carolina A & T State University. Alejandro was my lab mate and my laughing partner during our PhD process. I gave him the nickname Kojak and named his lab space the one stop shop. He had everything from food/snacks, beverages, music, etc.. LOL He would use the picture hanging in the lab for his post-it-notes. As a joke, I gave him one big post-it-note and wrote on it Alejandro's white board. As far as I know, it's still hanging in the lab. We had so many laughs and silly moments and kept one another uplifted during our process. My heart is broken. Alejandro, my buddy you are already missed. Thank you for being you and allowing me to be me. We PhinisheD! Rest in God's arms my friend.

May peace of God be with you during this difficult time. I remember him as a child growing up in Providence. God loves you and so do I

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time!

White and Lucy. I'm very saddened to hear of the loss of your beloved son. May God bless you and your entire family. I'm as close as a phone call if you need anything. Blessings! Bettye YoungStewart & Family

Alejandro was one of my lab mates during my PhD journey. Oftentimes he was coming to the lab while I was about to leave late at night. During this overlap period we'd talk about many things, laugh about things, & just have fun to ease the grind of research. I'd also see him during the day & the same routine would happen. He was a kind, funny, & crazy guy who had a strong level of discipline mixed in with humor & silliness.

I'm praying for the bereaved family. Alejandro you'll be missed.

-Travis
