Anthony Longworth “Tony” Dillard was born alongside his twin sister Annette Coward on January 16th , 1936 in Yanceyville, North Carolina. His parents, Nicholas Longworth Dillard and Gladys Dillard, were both educators at Yanceyville’s Caswell County Training School.
Tony was raised on the Bible, the arts, and developed a passion for education. When it was time for college, Tony attended Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee majoring in English. After graduation from Fisk University he was accepted into the University of Pittsburgh where he earned his Master’s in Business Administration.

In 1975, Tony had a job transfer offer from AT&T to relocate from Queens to Greensboro, North Carolina. Not long after he arrived in Greensboro, he brought his family to his grandfather’s church, St. Matthews United Methodist Church. Tony was very involved in the Church over the years including the United Methodist Men, Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, several choirs, served as a Lay Leader, and served on various committees and special initiatives.
Tony loved music, fishing, reading, African American history, theology, travel, animals and entertaining people from all walks of life with his stories, jokes and tidbits of wisdom. He was also very active in the community serving on various boards and commissions. He will be deeply missed.

TO THE DILLARD FAMILY:I was saddened to hear of Anthony's transition. I heard that he was very ill and perhaps in lots of pain; and, I know thats not the life Anthony would want, neither would I want to see him in pain and discomfort.Still I know all of us will miss him. We were classmates in Yanceyville at Dear Ole CCTS. We lived very close together in Yanceyville and played "hide and seek" almost every evening. One evening I was hiding and fell over a "bob wire" fence and got a big gash in my leg. I still have the scar to prove it. Every day as I am dressing, I am reminded of the fun we had as children in Yanceyville playing fun games until we were called in, or when the lights came on!! We have stayed connected during our grown-up years. Anthony kept me informed about our classmates ups and downs, ins and outs. He was a wonderful close friends. I hoped so much that we would be able to convene another class of 54 reunion, but God saw differently. I also talk with his twin sister, Annette often. I hope that thoughts from friends will help her find comfort; because I know this loss will be very hard for her because they were not only twins, but very close in every way. Sending thoughts, prayers, and hugs and kisses, and lots of love. RIP Wnthony. Beejaye (Barbara Jean)
