Obituary For Barbara Jean Camak Dungee

Mrs. Barbara Jean Camak Dungee was born on May 19, 1935, in Blair, South Carolina to the late Lillie Camak and later moved to live with her grandparents John and Lula Camak and her Aunt Bessie Woodward in Greensboro, North Carolina. She peacefully departed this life into eternity to be with the Lord early Friday morning on February 16, 2024 at Blumenthal Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Mrs. Dungee attended school in the Guilford County School System and graduated from Dudley High School in May 1955. Mrs. Dungee continued her education at Maco Beauty College in Greensboro, North Carolina where she received a degree in Cosmetology in 1958. After graduating from college, she was employed by Deluxe Beauty Shop and was later employed by Duke Power Energy Company where she retired after twenty years of service.

In 1958, Barbara married Mr. Cethel Hoyle of Shelby, North Carolina and remained happily married until his death in 1981. In November 1986, she later married Mr. Joseph G.A. Dungee and they were very happily married for 30 years.

At an early age, Barbara joined and was baptized at Hassion Hill Baptist Church in Blair, South Carolina. In later years after moving to Greensboro, North Carolina, she joined United Institutional Baptist Church where she worshipped with her husband. Mrs. Dungee was a dedicated and loyal member and served on the Usher Board until her health declined, but continued to support her church until her passing. Mrs. Dungee knew that God was her Lord and Savior and never doubted God’s love and miraculous power. She would read her Bible daily and would not go to bed without placing it under her pillow for protection.

Mrs. Dungee was affectionately known as ‘Aunt Barbara,’ ‘Barbara Ann’ or ‘Barbara Jean’ by family and friends. She always had a loving and angelic smile that would light up a room, and her heart was pure as gold. Barbara loved her family and eagerly awaited the opportunity of their visits. She was loving, kind, had a humble spirit, giving heart and also humorous. Barbara was small in stature, but a Mighty Woman of God.

During her younger years, as a teenager, Barbara enjoyed cooking and sewing. As she grew into adulthood, she gained a passion for flowers. She felt that flowers enhanced the beauty of the earth and cared for them with love.

Barbara was a member of Dudley Alumni Association. Gates City Beautician Cosmetology Association, Ward #2 Organization and an Eastern Star-Magnolia Chapter #23.

Mrs. Dungee was preceded in death by her mother Lillie Camak Cantrell, her husband, Joseph G.A. Dungee; uncles: John Henry, Robert, Mack, Ernest, Preston, Curtis, Coleman, and ‘Baby Brother’; aunts: Henrietta, Sally, Mary, Bessie, Pinki, Ida B, Ruth and Lucille.
