Mr. Barnard E. Tatum Jr. United States Air Force Retired
Mr. Barnard Tatum, Jr. passed away Wednesday, July 6, 2022. Funeral service will be held Thursday, July 14, 2022 at 1:30 pm Cassie Coote-Brown Memorial Chapel at Perry J. Brown Funeral Home. 1pm Visitation. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Barnard Tatum was born January 22, 1938 in Farmington North Carolina to Barnard Tatum Sr. and Lucy Setzer Tatum. He was a Graduate of Davie County Training School. He joined the US Air Force in 1956 .His military assignments took him to Westover Massachusetts, Cheyenne Wyoming, Vandenberg California, Great Falls Montana, Minot North Dakota ,Hampton Virginia and Fayetteville North Carolina. His overseas assignments included Korea, Vietnam and Thailand.
Mr. Tatum entered into Holy Matrimony with Miss Mae Nell Davidson in 1958. Together they raised four children; Ms. Judy Campbell, Mrs. Cherina Cathey Mr. Godfrey Tatum and Mr. Gregory Tatum
Upon his retirement from the military Barnard began his career with AMP incorporated. During his time there he also earned his College Degree. After retiring from AMP incorporated he began working for First Student. In his spare time he enjoyed traveling with his wife, hunting, raising dogs and coaching baseball. Coach Tatum touched the lives of many young men in Greensboro’s Colt League baseball program. Mr. Tatum was a lifelong member of the Armed Forces Retiree’s Club in Greensboro and dedicated many hours of his time to his brother there. He also was very instrumental in his neighborhood and organized clean ups with Parks and Recreation. He could be seen mornings going for his walks and picking up paper from the streets.
Mr. Tatum is survived by his wife Mrs. Mae Tatum of the home. His sons Mr. Godfrey Tatum and Mr. Gregory Tatum (Melita) and daughters Ms. Judy Campbell and Mrs. Cherina Cathey (Phil). Grandsons Mr. Nigel Tatum , Mr. Phillip Cathey and Mr. Derrick Cathey. And his Granddaughters Ms. Aja Tatum and Ms. Nadia Tatum . Mr. Tatum was preceded in death by his father and mother Mr. and Mrs. Barnard E. Tatum Sr. brothers; Henry, Frankie and William and sisters Kay Francis, Annette and Diane. He is survived by his brother Daniel and sisters Geraldine, Jennette, Rachel and Cathy and many nephews and nieces. Professional service entrusted to Perry J. Brown Funeral Home.
The family would like to thank the Doctors and staff at Moses Cone Hospital and Hospice.
