Ms. Beverly Blake passed away on December 22, 2021.
Beverly Ann Blake was gifted to the Earth on September 23,1962 to the late Claudia Mae and Willie Gene Blake. Beverly (fondly called Bev) grew up in Boston Massachusetts in the close-knit neighborhood of Bromley Heath, found in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts. Beverly attended Grant A.M.E. Church in Boston as a child and was a God-fearing Christian that loved the Lord.
After attending Walpole High School, Beverly held several positions working at City Hall in Boston, Massachusetts, in the Management Information Department. Once Beverly became a mother to her one and only, absolute love and delight of her life Eric Blake, she decided it was time for a change and she moved to Greensboro, North Carolina. There she continued the trend of working for North Carolina A&T, Guilford County Animal Control, and Greensboro Coliseum. Bev’s love for children allowed her to open a daycare, following in her mother’s footsteps and caring for preschoolers. Beverly later joined St. James Baptist Church in 2014. She was active in the Will Green Choir and the Guest Response Team. Beverly loved finding “The Perfect Piece”, be it her wardrobe or her home. It grew into an artistic skill that could be seen in her home and stunning appearance “yes she was very fly”. She showed others how to create comfortable spaces as well.
Beverly can be remembered for her infectious laugh and smile, her insight, her stories, her laid back approach to life and her love for God and family. Beverly will be sorely missed is an understatement.
Beverly is preceded in death by both her parents: Claudia and Willie Gene Blake and her brothers: William Thomas Gladney and Ronald Blake. She leaves to mourn her son: Eric Blake (Fiancé Tedra Green) and grandson: Cade Bruin Blake “Peanut” of Greensboro, NC; brothers: Joseph Taylor of Boston, MA, Warren Blake (De Blake) of Greensboro, NC, Wayne Blake of Boston MA, sister: Dianne Blake-Reuben of Minneapolis, MN, uncle: John Taylor of Boston, MA, aunts: Kathleen Gordon of Greensboro, NC, Betty Jenkins of Boston, MA, special friend/client: Paula Kilpatrick; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and great friends. A service honoring her life will be held on January 14, 2022 at St. James Baptist Church located at 536 W. Florida Street, Greensboro NC 27406.
Visitation begins at 12:00 noon and the service will follow at 1:00 pm.
Professional services are entrusted to Perry J. Brown Funeral Home.
I am really in shock and saddened to hear if Beverly's passing. She kept my son when she first started her at home daycare. He is 26 now. I ran into her at the amphitheater a while back and it was so good talking with her. You all are in my thoughts and prayers. Leta Wright
Eric, Aunt Kate, Warren, Diane and the rest of the family, although I have not seen Be early in years through her sharing of her holiday designs and glowing pictures on Facebook, I felt that she kept us all close. Will never forget that she was responsible for getting the suite for the going away party that Susan, Bobby and others, mostly us extended cousins, attended to wish me well on my move to D.C. and my first legal job. Her kindness and joy then reflected a spirit of giving and celebration that lifted so many of us. May your good memories of your beautiful and wonderful mom continue to lift you. Viki Browne
Bev you showed so much courage during the last few months of your life although in pain you keep a smile on your face. Jesus said in John 5:28,29 that there will be a resurrection which you well knew. So, rest Bev and wait for his call the paradise new world is near Psalms 37:10,11. Cousin Bruce

To Eric and Blake family: Beverly was such a warm, kind person with a beautiful smile. I can't remember when we met, but we connected instantly. We loved talking about almost anything, especially our one and only children. It is so sad to imagine not having her around. She had such a bubbly attitude each time we talked and always finding a way to help me no matter the issue. Please know that a light has gone out in my heart and our community. She will be deeply missed.🙏🏽☦️ In Sympathy, Sharon Hightower, friend and Councilwoman, City of Greensboro

Beverly was one of the most amazing folks we have had the opportunity to meet in our time with Guilford. It seemed like the sun emerged from behind the clouds every time we had the opportunity to see her. We pray for God's comfort for her family and those closest to her. Our world has lost some of its radiance, but I'm sure she will shine down even brighter from above. James and Sandi Priddy

My Love, Prayers, and support to the entire Blake Family, I consider myself as one of the Family. I watched Beverly grow up from a little girl to a woman. Were a part of the Bromley Heath Family. Bev was always Beautiful inside and out. She also worked for me at the City Of Boston. All of my staff took an interest in her so that she would succeed in her career and in life. Sometimes God put people in your life that just makes your life better, Bev was one of them. Beverly will never be forgotten by any of us. Her sprit will be with us forever.
To the Blake Family: we all share this very sad time of tears and pain in the loss of Beverly. Beverly was a beautiful and loving member of our Bromley Heath TMC family. May our famous motto of "We Are Family" give us all comfort in knowing that she never walked alone! God Bless you Bev....RIP💖

Beverly and I had a conversation years ago and realized that 7 degrees of separation happened. Our sons met in elementary school here. I lived in Boston before moving to Greensboro, where I unknowingly met Bev's cousins. Bev and I got to talking and we figured it all out. I will never forget that conversation. All my love to Eric and family. "And ever has it been that love knows not its own depth until the hour of separation." Kahlil Gibran Melanie Carter(Nickerson)
