Obituary For Brandon Richberg

Brandon Samuel Karlton Richberg, affectionately known by family as Bran-Bran and bandmates as Richberg, was the beloved son of Samuel Matthew and Carmen Clarice Richberg. He was born on October 20, 1984 and departed this life on Monday, September 22, 2025. Raised in Greensboro, North Carolina, Brandon
became a member of New Light Baptist Church at an early age where he joined the Children’s Choir. Later, he moved his membership and faithfully completed New Members Orientation to be a full-fledged member of the
Mt. Zion Baptist Church family, where he participated in the Orchestra under the direction of Minister Lynn
Woods.
Brandon’s academic journey commenced with his matriculation through the Guilford County schools and
graduation from Eastern Guilford High School in 2002, where he participated in the marching band, football team, and baseball team. With an unwavering commitment to higher education, he attended Elizabeth City State University and later transferred to North Carolina A&T State University where he was a member of the class of 2008, having completed the Bachelor of Arts in Music Business Administration. He continued to pursue his Aggie Pride training in music and entrepreneurship. He was the Assistant Band Director, under the direction of Charles E. Butler, at Ben L. Smith High School from 2009-2013. He also
served as Assistant Band Director, under the direction of Michael Yelverton, at Northeast Guilford High
School from 2013-2019. Brandon’s entrepreneurial spirit shone through when he established Richberg
Entertainment, Inc. (Richberg ENT) and Sam Karlton Photos (SKP). He spent years and countless hours offering his gift of photography and film where he captured band competitions featuring the essence of high school and college bands’ musical prowess. In many instances, the competitions often featured the spirit of African American musical history and pride. Brandon’s dedicated entrepreneurship will always be a treasured part of his enduring legacy.
Brandon’s years of life were marked by his patience, warm personality, and empathy. These formidable
attributes aided in his success as a dedicated employee at George C. Simkins Elementary School as an Early Childhood Special Education (SPED) Teacher Assistant. He loved the early childhood/elementary children of Guilford County where he served at other schools in other positions. On any given day, he had stories to share about his students’ successes. His recent joy for his children was the “play corner” he created to help students
decompress. He was so proud of his students. More than many knew, he had an unwavering belief in his
students’ potential. He also touched many lives in the community of high school to college marching bands.
Brandon had an unconditional love for his family. He leaves to mourn his mother, Carmen Clarice, and father, Samuel Richberg of the home; his loving siblings: Karl (Jennifer) Wood of Greensboro, NC Shayla Richberg of Durham, NC as well as heart sister: Nadia (Clayton) Jones of Dudley, NC. He also leaves his treasured uncles and aunts, Charles (Hazel) Richberg of Kinston, NC, Glenn (Arnita) Smith of New Castle, DE, and Dr. Gwenda (Hayward) Greene of Columbia, SC. He also leaves his nephews and niece, Garrett Wood, Charles
“Chuck” Conway, and Brittany Jones, all of Greensboro, NC, Goddaughter (Taylor Starks) of Atlanta, GA, as well as beloved cousins, Christopher (Nichole) Richberg of Perry Hall, MD; Charles Greene of Columbia, SC; Bradley Smith of Atlanta, GA; Laura (Dan) Bittman of West Chester, PA; and Clarise Smith of Philadelphia, PA. Additionally, he leaves a host of cousins, extended family, friends, and students that will forever cherish his memory and the profound impact he made on their lives. Music and the marching band were his passion. His memory will continue to inspire and uplift all who were fortunate enough to know him, leaving an indelible mark on their hearts and minds.

Funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, October 3, 2025, at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 1301 Alamance Church Road, Greensboro, North Carolina 27406. Visitation will be held prior at 10:30 a.m.

Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park, 3600 N OHenry Boulevard, Greensboro, North Carolina 27405

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your son. He was a great person to be around and to work with daily. I have known him since he was a substitute here (Best Sub Ever), then became a teachers assistant. Back in his middle school years my mom Ms. McDowell was his math teacher, so we already had a small connection there. He has known me for my whole life even before my life started. He will be deeply missed and I will cherish our friendship forever.

I worked with Brandon at George Simkins Elementary School. He was such a joy to be around, and I miss seeing him every day. My deepest and sincerest condolences to his family during this sad time. Praying for you all!

It's hard to process that Brandon is gone. Just two games ago, Eli and I were with him at the tailgate. We gave him a ride and spent the time listening to him talk so passionately about his love for band and photography. We had no idea it would be our last conversation. That memory is now so precious. My deepest condolences go out to Sam, Carmen, Shayla, and the entire Richberg family. May he rest in peace.

To the family of Brandon Richberg, I extend my sympathy and condolences to you. I got the opportunity to get to know Mr. Richberg as he subbed in my pre-k classroom for many years. He was patient, kind, and gentle with our early learners. It was obvious that he loved and cared for his family as he often shared stories. I will miss seeing him and his big smile around the city and at A&T basketball games. May you find peace knowing that he is resting with God.

To the Richberg family I will keep you lifted up in these hard times. I met Brandon through his sister and mother. I briefly connected with Brandon on days he met to pick Ms. Carmen up from salon appointments. It was really nice getting to talk and connect with Brandon on those days. I will remember him as a loving brother and son.
