Mrs. Brenda Sue Boyce Carrouthers went home to be with our Father on Saturday, January 27, 2024. She was born on March 30, 1941, in Gastonia, North Carolina to the late Gideon (Gid) Boyce and Margaret M. Williams Boyce.
Brenda attended school in Gastonia County until 9th grade and one of her blessed moments in her life was returning to school, graduating from Guilford County Schools with her high school diploma in 1974. She was also a faithful employee of Guilford County Schools and in the Jefferson Standard Building for twenty years before she medically retired. For over fifty years she was an active member of the St. James Baptist Church family in Greensboro, NC.
Brenda found her passion in bowling as she slowly rolled her ten-pound bowling ball and wreaked havoc on her opponents. She also loved to travel; if it rolled, sailed, or flew she was on it. Our mom loved the ocean and sand of the beach. She loved the slots in the casino as she dreamed of one day hitting the big one and providing for those she loved. She loved reading her bible and doing word searches. She was a beautiful social butterfly, with childlike innocence (Matthew 18:3) and she never met a stranger. Our mom was playful and very funny. She prayed for her children, all that she encountered and wanted nothing but the best for all. Her unconditional love and sense of humor landed everywhere she went.
Brenda leaves her love and beautiful memories for her children: Winfred G Boyce (Earnie), Melvin A. Carrouthers (Rosa), Regina C. Smith (Benjamin), Karen C. Mitchell (Brian), and Steve W. Carrouthers (Sani); sister: Margaret E Boyce (Ellen); grandchildren: Winfred G. Boyce, Jr, Shikitta R. Boyce, Karen R. Smith, and Angelina Crutchfield; eleven great-grandchildren; her friends: Ms. Mary Galmon, Ms. Everlean Foxx (Mama Lean), and Ms. Willie Mae Clapp; and countless family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband: James A. Carrouthers; parents: Gideon and Margaret Boyce; siblings: Billie Jean Boyce, Glenn W. Boyce, Sr., Sarah Ann Boyce Brice (Twin), David Boyce (Twin), and Alfred Boyce; granddaughter: Ashliegh R. Smith Jones; great-granddaughter: KaMya H. Jones; grandson: Brandon Mitchell; and friend: Jestine Cunningham
A service honoring her life will be held Thursday, February 8, 2024 at St. James Baptist Church; 536 W Florida St., Greensboro, NC 27406.
The visitation will begin at 10am with the service following at 10:30am.
The burial will take place following the service at Salisbury National Cemetery.
