Mr. Chesley Smith, Jr. passed away Monday, December 2, 2024.
Chesley Smith, Jr., son of the late Chesley Smith, Sr., and Ophelia W. Smith, was born on March 2, 1943, in Roxboro, North Carolina. He departed this life on December 2, 2024, in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Chesley attended the Person County School System. He was a devoted member of St. James Baptist Church, where he faithfully served on the Senior Usher Ministry for many years. He retired from the United Parcel Service after thirty-three years of dedicated service and later worked as a school activity bus driver for Guilford County Schools for five years.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Joyce Howard and Carrie DeLon.
Chesley is survived by his loving wife of sixty years, Ellen Vilines Smith; one daughter, Nicole Smith of Greensboro, North Carolina; one son, Bernard Smith (Sharon) of Fort Myers, Florida; three grandchildren, Paige McDougle of Greensboro, North Carolina, and Steffon and Jasmine Smith of Charlotte, North Carolina; two great-grandchildren, Laila Daye and Cali Cooper of Greensboro, North Carolina; one sister, Corean Ruffin of Medford, New York; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held Monday, December 9, 2024 1:30pm St. James Baptist Church 536 West Florida Street Greensboro, North Carolina. Visitation 1pm.
Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Cemetery 3600 North O'Henry Boulevard Greensboro, North Carolina.
