Obituary For David Carelus

David Saint Bonheur Carelus, (92), of Greensboro, NC, former resident of Hempstead, NY, passed away on Sunday, August 27, 2023.

David was born to Narilus Cajuste Carelus and Sylfise Louis Juste Jacques, on June 26, 1931 in Petion-Ville, Haiti. He immigrated from Haiti, in 1975, initially settling in Brooklyn, NY in a growing and vibrant Haitian community. Between 1977 and 1987, he enabled the immigration of all his children and sponsored their spouses and other relatives to the United States.

David is survived by his wife, Ines Carelus and several children Etiene, Gerda, Evelyn, Mirlande, Guerson, Marie, and Jean-Baptiste. He was predeceased by son, Occide. In addition to children, David is survived by 26 grandchildren and countless great grandchildren.

His undying dedication to supporting his family fueled his entrepreneurial drive. He was involved in several businesses from office cleaning to taxi services, and even newspaper delivery. David was extremely hardworking and tireless! Even with the long hours of work he always made time for his family, international travel, and praise and service to God as a Deacon at Progressive Holiness Church in Hempstead, NY.

The Carelus family will host a funeral service on September 9, 2023 at 1:00pm in Durham NC at Progressive Holiness Church.12:30pm Visitation. A second service will be held at Carl C Burnett Funeral Home on September 11, 2023, followed by a burial at Greenfield Cemetery in Uniondale, NY. The family would like to thank you for all your prayers and sympathy during this difficult time.
