Derrick Dupont Davis

I am a fellow NCCU Geographer... And just learned of Derricks' passing. May you find what gives you comfort and peace during this time. He was always a man of substance and truth. I loved talking GIS with him and laughing about our departmental professors, as he went a few years before me...we still had the same experiences. This makes me smile... I first met Derrick in grad school at USC, then we worked together at BDA in FL. Both of us being from NC we hoped to return home. He got here a year prior to my return. I sent many UNCG interns to Guilford County GIS for Derrick to mentor. His intelligence, humor and ability to lift people up was amazing and helped many students. What a wonderful man and friend. The Magnificent Seven , better know as the Powell Siblings are deeply saddened by the loss of our first and oldest nephew. We spoiled him rotten when he was young and loved him, so. I hadn't seen Derrick for awhile, but it was so nice to run into him and see his smiling face. He hadn't changed from the time when I was working at the County. He was such a positive influence and a good employee. His joy and love was so warm and needed in these times particularly.

Words cannot express how we feel about the loss of our sweet son, Derrick. Lord, we prayed for a miracle in his healing and you allowed him not to suffer and linger but took your child home to live with you eternally. You still gave us a testimony of true love-a testimony through Derrick's life. we loved him so much and thank you Lord for allowing him to touch our lives. Derrick was such a good man, and his Grandmother Powell was so proud of him! I know they are having a heavenly reunion with other family members and friends. I had the distinct pleasure of working with this fine man as his consultant at work. We shared a lot of the same views and outlook on life. I knew Derrick through work, as a consultant for the county. I worked with Derrick for the last ten years or so and considered him as a good friend. We had a lot of great conversations while doing our work about sports, politics, and the like. I'm really sad about his sudden passing and will miss him. He was a dignified, intelligent person who had a positive impact on my life. I pray for his family; I know he loved them deeply and was very proud of them. He told me so on numerous occasions. He was a good person and is in a better place now. God bless you Derrick.

My brother and Derrick were friends who became family. Derrick had a larger than life personality and will be missed by everyone who knew him. Derrick Davis, simply put, was GOOD PEOPLE!!
