The life of Dorothy Louise White began on the 26th day of February 1935 in Barnwell County, SC. She was born to the union of Richard and Rosa Orr. She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Richard Dean Haith and one of her granddaughters, Katrina Michelle White.
Dorothy was a graduate of Dudley High School in Greensboro, NC and Harry S. Truman Community College in Chicago, IL.
Her work history included working at the historically significant Woolworth Department Store located in downtown Greensboro, NC. As an employee of Woolworth, she was required to not only enter her place of employment through the backdoor, she also was required to eat her meals in the back of the building, because of the color of her skin. As a single mother she worked as a cashier at Jewel Food Store in Chicago for twenty years to provide for her family. Then as an assistant at Misericordia, where she cared for children and young adults with mild to profound developmental disabilities.
Dorothy accepted Christ into her life under the pastorate of Bishop Joseph D. White, Sr. and served God in many capacities. She served as a choir member, singing praises unto God. As a wife, supporting her husband. As a mother, loving her children while communicating the reality of Christ through simple means like reading the Christmas story on Christmas morning. By being a Godly example, even when times were hard. Her greatest means of service to God may have been her desire to be ?, source of encouragement, she always spoke a word of hope and strived to love all those within her circle of influence.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her former husband, Joseph D. White; her sons and !heir wives, Pete and Cynthia White and John and Darlene White; her son, Michael White and her daughter, Rosalyn Spruill; and many grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.
A private funeral service honoring her life will be held on Friday, May 21, 2021 at Full Gospel Christian Center 4618 Creekview Rd, McLeansville, NC 27301.
