Born September 2, 1932 to Henry and Sara Jackson, he passed away peacefully on May 15 in Greensboro, NC from complications related to multiple myeloma and only eleven months after the passing of his wife of sixty-two years, Lillie. His other monikers are “Jack”, “Ernie” or “Action Jackson”.
Born and raised in Reedville, Virginia he graduated from Rosenwald High School. He worked on a
commercial fishing boat for a stint, later becoming a skilled carpenter after moving to New York City. He and Lillie raised a daughter Lisa in South Floral Park, New York. He was civically engaged in the community as a volunteer fireman and served on the Village Board of Trustees. He was also a dedicated freemason and progressed through multiple degrees. Always an avid church goer, he was a member of Emanuel Baptist Church in Elmont, New York.
He and his wife later moved to Greensboro, NC to be in closer proximity to their grandchildren. He was quick to set down roots with a new church home, and fellowship with a group of friends of transplanted New Yorkers. He was deeply devoted to his wife and family. He is remembered as kind, affable with an infectious laugh; people were just naturally drawn to him. It is hard to capture his essence in words. His passing is a great loss. He will be missed but forever remembered for a life well-lived.
Ernest is survived by his daughter Lisa, grandchildren Celeste, Penelope and Gabrielle, and nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral service will be held Monday, May 22, 2023 12 pm Providence Baptist Church 1106 Tuscaloosa Street Greensboro, North Carolina. 11:30 am Visitation.
