Obituary For Hattie Lugene Davis

Hattie Lugene Turner Davis gained her eternal wings and heaven welcomed her with open arms on Tuesday, July 9, 2024. After 86 wonderful years, she peacefully departed this life with her son Rod by her bedside. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, sister-in-law, cousin, and special friend. We, her family and friends, bow in humble submission to the will of
Almighty God.

Hattie was born to Jasper Zeb Turner and Hattie Ethel Harris Turner on December 5, 1937, in Burnsville, NC. She was lovingly raised in Albemarle, NC by her aunt and uncle, Overseer Rosa Mae Hubbard and Deacon Walter Hubbard. Hattie received her formal education at Kingville School in Albemarle, NC and she attended Winston Salem State University in Winston Salem, NC, as well as Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte NC.

Hattie was married to Theodore Roosevelt Ingram. Soon afterwards, they opened their lives and their hearts and adopted their son, Rodvegas. As she lovingly reared her family and took care of her home, she also showed that love to her community, near and far. She was a generous woman who never met a stranger and always lent a hand to help. Hattie was the type of friend who would give you the clothes off her back to demonstrate her love, care, and concern.

She was also driven to strive for excellence in her various lines of work. One particular highlight of her work career occurred in Wilmington, NC. It was there
that she worked for the Wilmington Transit Authority and made history as she was the first female bus driver for the City of Wilmington NC. Again, those traits of love, care, and concern for others came through and it was in Wilmington that she gained another son to lovingly raise, Dana.

After the death of her first husband, Hattie married James Roger Davis. In addition to their great love for each other, they also shared the love of music. They were an anointed duo and traveled near and far, singing in churches, small and large. They lovingly enjoyed each other until his death. James’s death certainly left a void in her life, but she continued to show love, care and concern, especially with her
friendship with Minister Rebecca Blue and the grands, Heaven and Neveah. She also was lovingly devoted to her church, Resurrection Community Church and
Pastor Michael Stovall of Albemarle, NC. Hattie was a dedicated member of the church until she died. Under Pastor Stovall’s leadership, she became the “Mother of the Church.”

Hattie’s love for God was not just inside the church, but she followed the great two commandments by loving God and loving people everywhere. At Albemarle Central School Apartments, her home was the gathering space where people could come to get a meal, get a laugh, get encouragement, and even get correction when needed. Hattie was a mother /grandmother to many, and she left an impact on all
she encountered. She also loved participating in the numerous prayer call lines every night, Monday -Friday. Not only did she call into the lines, but she recruited others to join the prayer calls to hear a word, to offer a prayer, or to hear her sing.
Suffice it to say, “Mama Hattie will be missed!”

Hattie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James and her siblings, Carrie Galatha Turner and Wendell Turner. She leaves to celebrate her life, sons: Rev. Rodvegas Marc Ingram (Rev. Tamara Ingram) of Greensboro, NC; Dana Chambers of Charlotte, NC and J. Rodger Davis (Ellen) of Pittsburgh, PA. Grandsons: Rodvegas Marc Ingram Jr. (Charity) and John Cameron Ingram all of Greensboro, NC. Great-Granddaughters: Katelyn, Carmen, and Charlie Ingram of Greensboro NC. Sister: Violue Dildy of Albemarle, NC. Brother: Rodney Turner of Albemarle, NC. Sister-in-Law: Marie Turner of Polkton, NC.

She also leaves a host of other relatives and special friends, which are too numerous to name. You are all here today with us because you held a special place
in her heart, and she loved you. And whether she showed her love through a phone call, a prepared meal or a special word of prayer, she had a way of making us all feel special in her own unique and sassy ways. Thank you all for being a part of
her life.

Funeral service will be held Monday, July 15, 2024 12:30pm Resurrection Community Church 1325 East Main Street Albemarle, North Carolina. 12pm Visitation.

Burial will take place Tuesday, July 16, 2024 10am Salisbury National Cemetery.

Hattie Ingram saved my life. I have been looking for her online for years. I could not find her until today when I ran across her obituary. I ran away from home in Iowa on a bus, pregnant with my third child and divorced and ashamed, with only a few dollars in my pocket and my two small children in tow and some how I got off the bus in Wilmington NC. nearly 46 years ago. Miraculously I got a hotel room with the little money I had left. The next day, I caught a city bus with my children and Ms Hattie Ingram was the bus driver. And as fate and the Grace of God would have it Hattie befriended me and she fell in love with my two kids.. She fed us and , helped me get an apartment which she filled with furniture and food. And she put me on the path to recovery. Hattie saved our lives and my youngest daughter who was born in Wilmington went on to be a college graduate, an actress and a novelist. Yes God is a wonder, yes Hattie Ingram was a wonderful woman and the most generous person I have ever met in my life. Because of Hattie Ingram I worked 46 years in the transit industry, cleaning buses, driving buses, supervising buses, and finally managing buses. And I have three grandchildren and three great grandchildren from the lives she saved .Thank you God for Ms Hattie Ingram Never forgotten♥️

Thank you Hattie. God welcomed an angel into His gates Always your friend Candra Cheers

Marva and I offer our condolences, prayers, and deepest sympathies.

Iam sorry for your loss. My deepest condolences to the family. Everytime I would see cousin Lugene she'd call me her song bird. I've never thought I could sing, but she certainly could. I can imagine you singing in the heavenly choir now. You may be gone from this life but you now have your eternal life. I've always thought you favored my aunt Argene Brewer Henderson. R.I.P from your cousin.
