After graduation, he started his career at the T.E. Neal Power Plant at the University and served 33 years until his retirement in 1991. After a courtship and developed love, they were married in Charlotte, NC in 1961. During their marriage, they were blessed with two sons, Jerry II and Jonathan. By 1963, Jerry established his home church affiliation at Union Memorial United Methodist Church. Jerry was a faithful member at Union for almost 60 years. His service and contributions included Chairman of the United Methodist Men; Chairman of the Trustees Board and Finance Committee member; member of the Chancel Choir; and he received a United Methodist Men’s Award for the NC Western Conference. He enjoyed bowling, traveling with his family, good cuisine, and never met a stranger.

A Dear One has gone from us, There is a vacant chair. But God who has bereaved us, Will place his Angel there. To help us bear our sorrow, our anguish, grief, and pain, For on that great tomorrow, We will meet again.
