Mr. John Herman Harris, III left this world April 1, 2025. He was born in Greensboro, NC, May 8, 1930.
Celebration of life starts at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, April 12, 2025 in the Cassie Coote-Brown Memorial Chapel at Perry J. Brown Funeral Home 909 East Market Street Greensboro, North Carolina. Visitation 3:00 p.m.
After studying at Dudley High School and North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, Johnny served his community in many ways as: a lifetime member of the NAACP; a supporter of Hayes-Taylor YMCA; a board member of the East Market Street Development Corporation;
President of the James B. Dudley High School Alumni; an active parent in the Big Brother Program; a member of the Gate City Community Development Corporation; Exalted Ruler of the Elks Lodge; Trustee of Turners Chapel A.M.E. Church; Trustee Chair at United Institutional Baptist Church; a participant in silent marches to desegregate downtown Greensboro; and as a photographer, he documented much local
history. In 2003, he was inducted into the Dudley High School Hall of Fame.
Johnny was preceded in death by: his wife Lois I. Harris; and his parents John Harris II and Arthenia Davis Harris.
Survivors include: his children Nathan Harris of
Greensboro; Tony Harris and Harriett Harris of Atlanta, GA;
grandchildren Honey Harris of Atlanta, GA, Thomas Colding of
Copenhagen, Denmark; great-grandson Hunter Meadows of
Atlanta, GA; god-granddaughter Alexandra Lundie; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
