Mrs. Johnnie Mae Shields passed away on Thursday, October 27, 2022. A service honoring her life will be held Friday, November 11, 2022 at St. James Baptist Church 12 pm. Visitation 11:30 am. Burial will follow at Westminster Gardens.
Johnnie Mae B. Shields was born in Philadelphia, PA in 1927. She was educated in the public school system in Charlotte, North Carolina.
After graduation, she chose to enter a career in nursing, which she enjoyed for over 40 years.
At an early age, she accepted Christ and continued her membership wherever she went. She was a faithful member of Saint James Baptist Church until her illness.
In 1950, she met and married James Shields, who expired in 1970 in Jamaica, New York.
Marvin, her oldest son, preceded her in death in 2003.
She leaves to mourn her one daughter and five sons: Clarissa Foster (Harry), Gary, LeVern, William, Lynn (Dolores), Richard (Lisa) Shields; sixteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She passed to eternity at the Cone Memorial Hospital on October 27, 2022 where she once was employed.
I thank God for the time I got to spend with your mom. All the laughs, trips and growing together in the Lord I will never forget. Know that God is well pleased with her and think of his goodness. I'm here for the family just call. Lori Collins Jones
