Obituary For Josiah Jones

Mr. Josiah Jones passed on Saturday, October 30, 2021.

Josiah Sebastian Jones was born on October 27, 1954, in Wilson, NC, Wilson County to the late Frissell W. Jones, and Pauline G. Jones. Josiah was the middle child, fourth of Frissell and Pauline’s seven children. Josiah was a pleasant and easy-going child.

Josiah’s musical talent and perfect ear became apparent at an early age. In junior high and high school, he played the double base in the orchestra. During that period, he won the NC All-State Music Award. At an early age, Josiah also acquired an interest in geography. He was very good at mapping out trip itineraries and travel plans. His interest in music led him to attend the Shenandoah Conservatory in Winchester VA. Later, he attended Western Carolina for his BS in Geography.

Josiah’s work career began in Greensboro NC at a surveying company. He also worked part-time at Sears as an appliance assembler. Most of his work career was spent at City of Greensboro in Engineering and Inspections as a Surveyor Party Chief. He retired after 30 years of service in 2016.

In 1985 Josiah met the love of his life Debra Woodrum, they were married October 26, 1991. They just celebrated their 30th anniversary a few days before his passing. Debbie and Josiah shared a love for sports, Debbie, the Green Bay fan, and Josiah, the avid Red Skins and Baltimore Orioles fan. They also enjoyed travels together. They attended the Highland Games at Grandfather Mountain each year, went to Green Bay for a couple of football games, and to Hawaii for their retirement celebration. They loved gathering with friends to watch sports and have fun times. Josiah’s passing leaves a great hole in Debbie’s heart. Josiah was also very instrumental in the care of his 95-year-old mother, and his 74-year-old-brother, Wagner. He could be depended on for chauffeuring his brother to appointments, running errands, always checking on his mother, and staying overnight with her as part of the family rotation for her care. In addition, he cared for his Autistic brother, Peter, when he made home visits to Greensboro. Josiah was very attentive to the needs of his family and his lost is invaluable to them.

Josiah will also be missed by extended family and a host of friends that he gathered with on a weekly basis for sports events and various social gathering. He was a real gentleman loved by many. Josiah shared with family that he had accepted Christ as his savior while a young man in college. Therefore, we rest in the fact that Josiah is now in the hands of the Lord. For it says in 2 Corinthians 5:8 TPT We live with a joyful confidence, yet at the same time we take delight in the thought of leaving our bodies behind to be at home with the Lord.

He leaves to cherish, a spouse, Debra Woodrum Jones of the home. Mother, Pauline Gallop Jones of Greensboro, Brother, L. Wagner Jones of Greensboro. Sister, Pamela J. Banks (Kenneth) of Durham, NC. Brother, Abraham Jones of Raleigh, NC. Sister, Ruth Jones (Johnnie Pegram) of Browns Summit, NC. Brother, Peter Jones of Pittsboro, NC. Brother-in-law, Richard Woodrum of Greensboro NC. Nieces: Carly Jones, Elisabeth Jones, Madeline (Matt) Woodrum. Nephews: Marcus Banks, Darrin Banks.

A Celebration of his life will be held at 2:30 pm on Saturday, November 13, 2021 in the Cassie Coote-Brown Memorial Chapel at Perry J. Brown Funeral Home, 909 E Market St., Greensboro, NC 27401. Visitation will held at 2 pm.
