Joyce Ann Jackson Johnson, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, was called to her heavenly home on September 20, 2025, in Greensboro, North Carolina. Joyce was born on July 9, 1945, in Florence, South Carolina, to the late Mary Lee and Welling Jackson Sr. She was one of nine siblings and is now reunited with her husband, Jesse Sr., and several siblings who preceded her in death: sisters Ida Griffin, Betty Matier, and Cassandra Jackson, and brothers Welling Jackson Jr., Herbert
Jackson, and Michael J. Jackson.
Joyce was a woman of unwavering faith and love for her community. She had a deep devotion to the Lord and was an active volunteer at Mount Zion Baptist Church, where she joyfully served in the Children's Choir alongside her late husband, Jesse Sr.
Together, they used the power of music to uplift and connect people throughout the city of Greensboro. Joyce was especially proud of supporting the Gospel Stars of Greensboro, a ministry led by Jesse Sr. and later by their son, Jesse Jr.
In addition to her dedication to her church, Joyce devoted her life to caring for others. Whether it was through home visits, baking cakes, or offering a listening ear, Joyce always made sure those around her felt loved and supported. She worked for 31 years
in the Nutrition Services department of Guilford County Schools, where her warm heart and dedication to service touched many lives. After retiring, she continued to serve her community by working at the Women’s YMCA.
Above all, Joyce’s greatest joy came from her family. She cherished her role as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Joyce leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and faith that will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
Joyce is survived by her loving daughter, Sonia James, and her son, Jesse Johnson Jr.; six grandchildren, Christopher (Tierney) James, Andrew Johnson, Jaie Johnson, Celena Johnson, Allen James Jr., and Katylin Johnson; one great-grandchild, Helaire James;
two brothers, David (Joyce) Jackson and Timothy Jackson, all of Greensboro; and a host of neices, nephews, extended family and friends who will miss her deeply.
Funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at Shalom Community Christian Church, 2227 Pinecroft Road, Greensboro, NC 27407. Visitation will be held prior at 11:00 a.m.
Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park, 3600 North O'Henry Boulevard, Greensboro, NC 27405
