Lillie Mae King was born May 10, 1945, to the late Melvin Minnifield and Maggie Fralin in Marion, Alabama. She was the oldest daughter of six siblings. She was the daughter-in-law to the late James and Lucy King. She departed this life for her eternal home on October 18, 2023.
Mae, as she was often called, was educated in the Perry County School System in Marion, Alabama. She attended and was baptized in New Hope Baptist Church, in Sprott, Alabama. She often talked about working in the cotton fields and that’s where she met Malachi King. They later married and moved from Marion to Greensboro, NC. It was in Greensboro where they decided to stay and work to make a better living. She worked for over thirty years at Curtis Packaging before they closed. Also, they made New Zion their church home before joining Godly Love Baptist Church. She was a devoted wife and mother who LOVED her, “FOUR BOYS!” She showed her unconditional love by always cooking (especially Sunday dinners), singing, dancing, gardening, playing checkers, and corn hole with her family.
Throughout the years she spent a lot of time with her grandkids. From every other weekend with the older grands to full-time stay-at-home grandma to a few of the younger ones. She would often venture out with all of them to the grocery store because she loved a good sale. She continued the tradition of dancing with her grandchildren while laughing and having a good time. During her alone time, she enjoyed crossword/word search puzzles, as well as sitting outside in her gazebo.
She didn’t mind helping others whenever she could. She would often set a plate aside for someone in need. She also didn’t mind sharing the vegetables from her neighborhood garden.
She is reunited in Heaven with her son, Christopher, and other loved ones who have gone on before her. She is survived by her husband, Malachi Sr.; three sons, James, Malachi Jr. and Kenneth; a devoted daughter-in-law, Dedria Davis-King, twelve grandchildren Ariel (Michael) Cary, Shada, Antwan, Ken, Kentrel, Marcus, Nina, Shaniah, De’Aundre, Jalen, Christian and Camryn; thirteen great grandchildren; six siblings, Melvin (Minnie), Barbara (Walter), Rosie (Isaiah), Will T., Johnson and Beverly; sister-in-law, Eola (Jeff) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and close family friends.
A service honoring her life will be held on Friday, October 27, 2023, at the Cassie Coote-Brown Memorial Chapel at the Perry Brown Funeral Home. The visitation will begin at 12:30 pm and the service will follow at 1:00 pm.
The interment will take place following the service at Lakeview Memorial Park; 3600 N. O'Henry Blvd. Greensboro, NC 27405.
