Obituary For Mae Violet Bundy

Mrs. Mae Violet Bundy passed away Saturday, April 29, 2023.

A service honoring her life will be held Sunday, May 7, 2023 in the Cassie Coote-Brown Memorial Chapel of Perry J. Brown Funeral Home; 909 E. Market Street Greensboro, NC 27401. The visitation will begin at 3:30 pm and the service will follow at 4 pm.

Mother Mae Violet Bundy, affectionately known as “MomMom” to both her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, was born on May 17, 1936, in Tappahannock, Virginia to the late Doctor Leonard Bundy and Dora Lee Rich. She transitioned from this earthly realm to her permanent heavenly home while at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, in Greensboro, North Carolina on April 29, 2023.

Mother Mae Violet Bundy attended Essex County Public Schools in Virginia. For several years, Mother Bundy’s career expanded into entrepreneurship in and around Cape May Court House, New Jersey. This entrepreneurship became a successful and well-known Sanitation Company. Next Mother Bundy served as the Superintendent of Sanitation for both the Trump Tower Casino in Atlantic City and the New Jersey Department of Education.

In 1983, she was the first ever to establish a LOST & FOUND Department for the Trump Plaza Casino, in Atlantic City, NJ. Mother Bundy standardized the custom of holding lost items in a specific location for a certain time before throwing items away or allowing lost items to be retrieved by Trump Plaza employees. She organized a method for items to be returned by personally calling their prospective owners. Her charismatic career also included providing dedicated medical care in nursing facilities for many years.

On May 1, 2020, Mother Bundy made local and national news when she was recognized as AlmaJAnnie Realty’s “Eldest First Time Home Buyer”. Once this story was shared on social media, it went viral. The story of her becoming the “Eldest First Time Home Buyer” reached the Dept. of HUD in Washington, DC. Amongst hundreds of applicants, she was also selected to be interviewed in her home by Greensboro Housing Consultants Group.

Mother Mae Violet Bundy enjoyed loving on all people, and she never met a stranger.

She was a genuine and nurturing caregiver by nature. She especially loved spending time with family and friends, particularly her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed shopping, singing, fine dining, and ministering. While out in public, Mother Bundy would often be led to minister to and pray for perfect strangers. To her family and friends, she was a known prayer warrior! She will always be remembered for her fierce independence, strong determination as well as her quick and sharp wit.

After relocating to Greensboro to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren, Mother Bundy became a devoted member of Love and Faith Christian Fellowship in Greensboro, North Carolina under the pastoral care of Bishop Michael Thomas and Pastor John Goins where she was a proud member of their singing group the Seasoned Saints.

Mother Bundy was married to the late Donald C. Still, Sr., to this union her two devoted children, Donald C. Still, Jr. and Glador “Missy” Still were born.

Mother Mae Violet Bundy was preceded in death by her 6 siblings, three sisters: Thelma Samuel, Marion Bundy, and Dora Ware and three brothers: Thomas Bundy, Herbert Bundy, and Dan Bundy.

Mother Mae Violet Bundy’s memories will forever be cherished by her beloved and devoted children: Don Still and Glador “Missy” Still McLaughlin (Charles); four grandchildren: Brittany Dabney (Andre), Jared Nicholson (Taylor), Corey McLaughlin, and Phillip McLaughlin; eight great-grandchildren: Nava Dabney, Ace Dabney, Kannon Dabney, Karter Dabney, Bryson Nicholson, Devin McLaughlin, Demi McLaughlin, and Parker Mae Dabney.

Mother Bundy was loved and adored by a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, friends and many other people who loved interjecting themselves into her energetic and positive aura. Many memorable moments of her storytelling, advice sharing, encouraging, ministering, and spiritual warfare will forever be treasured in our hearts and souls.
