God saw fit to bless the union of Robert F. Donnell and Jessie Graves on September 10, 1915, with a little girl named Mary Sue Donnell. She was a bundle of joy, who followed in her fatherโs footsteps, who was a Deacon at Locust Grove Church. Mary Sue later started teaching Bible Study and singing in the choir at Poplar Grove Church. Reverend A.M. Hall completed his pastorship at Bethel AME Zion, Mary Sue would occasionally attend as the church grew and became larger.
Mary Sue Donnell Hall departed this earthly life to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on November 22,2022. Mary Sue was a graduate of James B. Dudley High School, and later went to St. Signa Hospital where she received OJT (on the Job Training) in nursing and X-Ray Technician.
Mary Sue fell in love with her husband to be, Rev. A.M. Hall and five years later they started their family. To this union, God gave the 9 children, 8 of this union and 1 added into. Once her family came forth, she began working several jobs, Piedmont Hospital, Cerebral Palsy School, and Gateway Education Program. She also enjoyed babysitting, filling in for teachers, ironing, and cleaning her house. She was determined not to let her family do without anything. She loved and enjoyed her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren no matter what.
Even though Mary Sue did not complete her passion for becoming a nurse, she remained knowledgeable of the skills she learned. Her skills were a tremendous help when her 2nd grandson, Harry was born, she checked centimeters of dilation and was of great assistance during his delivery. During these years and going forward, Mary Sue always made sure her family checked on others, to care for them and even sent her daughter Patricia to care for one of the aunts, for a short amount of time.
Another passion she had was cooking and baking. She won several awards for her cakes, pies and cookies. Mary Sueโs Red Velvet Cake, Hummingbird Cake, Oatmeal Raisin cookies, Banana Nut bread, and hot fresh bread was the absolute best! She often came up with new creative ideas for her baking recipes.
Mary Sue has three requests of which two were completed; the first was to return to church where she could be in an atmosphere of singing songs of praise and worshipping God. October 2010, she became very fond of Pastor Michael Thomas, Sr. Pastor of Love and Faith Christian Fellowship, (she always wanted to meet him). Her second request was also granted; She wanted to go back to work after being retired for 27 years. So, her daughter Patricia, spoke with Dr. Carl Hoffman who was so impressed, he took her on and paid her for days she worked. Mary Sue was extremely happy when that happened. Her third request was that all her family come together in PEACE, which is now in the making so her soul may rest in peace.
