Michael Eugene Williams, Sr., 75, of High Point, NC passed away peacefully at home on June 26, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on February 7, 1950, in Polk County, Iowa, Michael lived a life defined by love, strength, and deep devotion to his family. He was a steadfast husband, a proud father, a loving grandfather, and a loyal brother whose presence will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Michael had a passion for golf and found great joy on the course, where his love for the game was matched only by the friendships it fostered and family bonding it created. He also had a special gift for entertaining—whether hosting gatherings with warmth and laughter or bringing people together through food and conversation, he made everyone feel welcome and at home.
Michael retired from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where he served as Manager of Housing and Residence Life. During his time there, he built a respected career and formed deep, lifelong friendships with colleagues who became extended family.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Darlene Williams; his children Ayana Vigil (Jeremy), Michael E. Williams, Jr. (LaRonda), and John Benzie Williams (Hayat); and his cherished grandson, Drew A. Williams. He is also survived by his brothers Dr. John Anthony Williams, William Joseph Williams, and Robert Thompson (Wanda). Godson Jody Walker(Dee). God-grandsons Jordan, and Jalen Walker. Along with many nieces and nephews and other extended family members.
Michael touched countless lives through his kindness, wisdom, and unwavering support for those he loved. He was fondly known as Mayor Mike, Mike on the bike, money Mike, magic Mike, mower Mike, and Mikey, by those who knew and loved him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
In accordance with his wishes, Michael will be cremated and a private, informal gathering will be arranged at a future date to honor his life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his memory to a cancer research organization of your choice.

Mike you were a close and dear who will be missed. My sympathy goes out to your family and friends.
Although I haven't known Mike for long, I feel that we've been part of the same family all along . He had this warm and sincere, down to earth and proud, soft and firm , and always positive demeanor that draws you to admire him. It didn't take long to uncover that he is exactly who you see, honest , transparent and genuine. It will always be an honor that Mike is forever part of our family. His radiance at John and Hayat's wedding was unforgettable. Although the memories are few, they are worth a lifetime. Michael, rest in peace. We will always love you.
I know Mikes memorial service won't happen until later, I wanted to reach out as soon as possible to say how saddened I am by his passing. I have fond memories of Mike affectingly known as "Fat Daddy" from our childhood growing up on the Southside of Des Moines. He would help me deliver the morning newspaper by riding on the handle bars on my bike. He was good man, and his memories will live on in our hearts Please accept my heartfelt condolences, Milford Fonza
