“Come unto me, all who are weary and heavy burdened, and I will give you rest.”~Matthew 11:28
Ernest Garfield Shaw was born March 15, 1933, to Bishop Edward and Reverend Alma Sellars Shaw in
Gibsonville, North Carolina and entered eternal rest at his home on December 15, 2025, surrounded by
his wife, daughter, and Hospice nurse at 93 years old. Ernest was a hardworking and faithful man whose
quiet strength and integrity were evident in every role he carried throughout his life.
Ernest devoted many years to safely transporting those in need as a cab driver, driver for the city for several years in the waste industry, and home-based mechanic-known for transmission and engine work.
Ernest’s hobby led him to a profession in mechanics at dealerships in both Greensboro and Burlington,
N.C. Known for his strong work ethic, Ernest was respected for his knowledge, precision, and reliability. This led him to serve as the personal driver for Judge Elreta Alexander Ralston and primary caregiver for her son. In that role, he traveled overseas many times. Throughout his career he was a professional driver. Ernest took pride in doing his work well and was known as someone others could depend on.
Above all, since May 12, 1956, when his parents married them in their home, Ernest was a devoted
husband to his beloved wife, Hazel Shaw, with whom he shared a life rooted in commitment, faith, and
love. In their 69 years together, he lived as a caring father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, always
placing the well-being of his family above all else. He loved his family and church family as well at the
Faith Tabernacle Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Ernest Garfield Shaw was preceded in death by his parents, Bishop Edward and Reverend Alma Sellars
Shaw, sisters-Mary Elizabeth Shaw Johnson, Elder Eloise Shaw Lorick, Helen Shaw Matkins, Reverend
Virginia Shaw Garner, and Reverend Margaret Shaw Mungo, and brother-Clarence Shaw.
He is survived by his loving wife, Pastor Hazel Shaw; daughter-E. Yvonne Shaw Martin of Whitsett; son-
Ernest Thompson (Pam) of Greensboro, NC; sister, Annie Lee Shaw Paylor of Gibsonville, NC;
grandchildren-Dermond Shaw, Robert Ernest Scott, Valerie Reyes, and Ernest Thompson, Jr.; 16 great-

Raytown MO and Martha Dingle of Reidsville, NC; and one beloved brother-in-law-Harvey Dingle of
