My mother and The Stephens were friends for many years. If my mother was not at home, everyone knew to check by Miss Sarah's house. I have many fond memories of spending time with them, eating, being taught how to dance by Mr. Thurston, sitting in the backyard, and around the kitchen table listening to grown folks conversation. Miss Sarah always spoke fondly and respectfully of her parents. Now the whole Surgeon family is reunited. My sincerest condolences, Janice Harris Clark

My parents and I moved in next door to Mrs. Sarah and Mr. Thurston when I was eleven months old. They became family. Like an extra set of grandparents. She was there for my Mother when my Father passed away. Mrs. Sarah was my safe space, and I loved hanging out next door. She always made you feel welcome. I loved chatting with her about random things. I will miss her. My condolences to the family.
Rest in heaven Auntie...it was such a pleasure to be able to pick up the phone and talk to you! I'm really going to miss that. But the memory of those special times will never fade. Love Always, Great Nephew Christopher Simpson- Los Angeles CA.
I loved my Aunt and I know my Aunt loved me..we are all truly saddened because of your earthly departure, but we have hope that we shall all meet again in heaven.
