Ms. Ella Mae Reid was called to her eternal rest on July 19, 2025.
Born Ella Mae Adams in Wilson, North Carolina. She was raised in a loving home and graduated from high school at the age of 17. After marrying, she moved to Brooklyn, New York, where she began working at Grumman Industries. She later transitioned into a role with the New York City Public
In 1977, Ella relocated to Greensboro, North Carolina, where she continued her dedication to education by joining Guilford County Public Schools.
She served at Archer Elementary School with passion and commitment until her retirement after 25 years of service.
Ella had a deep love for her family and treasured every moment spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She found joy in cooking, gathering with loved ones, and relaxing with her favorite television shows-particularly court TV programs like Judge Mathis, Judge Joe Brown, Judge Judy, and The People's Court, as well as classic sitcoms like Seinfeld and Everybody Loves Raymond. Above all,
Ella loved the Lord and lived her life grounded in faith.
She is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Gertrude and Sidney Adams; her siblings, Sidney Adams and Ella Fitzgerald Adams; and her cherished son, Lawrence E. Reid.
Ella leaves to cherish her memory: her children, Gary V. Reid (Bonny), Angela Wallace, and Lyle T. Reid; her brothers, Lindberg Sidney Adams (Patricia) and Dr. Donnell Adams (Shirley); five grandchildren-Rena Ferrell (Barry), Wayne Wallace (Victoria), Jamonica Clark (Kenneth), Sierra Reid, and Alanah Reid; eleven great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
Ms. Ella Mae Reid will forever be remembered for her kind yet firm spirit, radiant smile, and generous heart. Her legacy of love, strength, and faith lives on through all who knew and loved her.
Funeral service will be held Friday, August 1, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. in the Cassie Coote-Brown Memorial Chapel at Perry J. Brown Funeral Home Chapel located at 909 East Market Street in Greensboro, North Carolina 27401. Visitation will be held prior at 11:00 a.m.
Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery located at 3901 Forest Lawn Dr.
Greensboro, NC 27455.
