Mr. Ralph Cleveland Mohoney, Sr. passed away on May 28, 2021 peacefully in his sleep at his home in Greensboro, NC. He was born July 31, 1941 to James and Jaronia Mohoney. He was the oldest of four; his brother Jessie Mahoney (Leslie) of Washington DC, and his sister Yvonne Isley of Greensboro, NC. He is preceded in death by his bother Lorenzo Mahoney, his sons James Mohoney III and Demetrius Williams, and his son-in-law John Graves.
Ralph joined the armed forces and completed tours in France, two tours in Vietnam, and Germany just to name a few. He received dozens of military accommodations and retired as a SFC from the US Army before settling down in Greensboro, NC. There, he later retired as Captain Mohoney from Bud Service Security Company. If you knew Ralph, you knew a great storyteller. He had a story for everything. From his times growing up with his family and his Uncle Sam, to his travels around the world. Just wait for the “You remember when?”, and it was no doubt that it was about to be a good story. Now, some of the details may have changed, however, you knew it would end with a laugh. With his endless catch phrases like “Your kindness will never be obliterated”, to his signature “Baby” whenever he wanted to put some “umph” on it, Ralph always had a charm and a way with words.
Ralph’s pride and joy were his legacy and family. He loved his family. Ralph was the “Alpha and Omega” and wasn’t afraid to let you know it. If there was a lesson to be taught, you better believe “Professor Mohoney” was happy to give the lecture. There wasn’t a question that couldn’t be asked, but make sure you were ready for the “real” answer. He never held his tongue but always was willing to explain. And he loved to explain himself!
Ralph is survived by his wife of 62 years, Edna Mohoney, whom was his life support and confidant. Ralph leaves behind his children Vicki Graves, Ralph C. Mohoney Jr. (Patricia), Sharon Mohoney (David), Lisa Walker, Brian Mohoney, Right-On Mohoney (Bridget), and Deja Eini (Chayim); his four grandchildren that were raised by him and Edna; Greg Boykin Jr, Craig Boykin (Dani), Sheree Rogers (Jeremy), and Robert Mohoney. Ralph was blessed to have 16 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 3 great- great grandchildren, and a host of family and friends.
A service honoring his life will be held in the Cassie Coote-Brown Memorial Chapel of Perry J. Brown Funeral Home on Friday, June 25, 2021.The visitation will begin at 10:30am and the service will follow at 11:30am. Burial Salisbury National Cemetery in Salisbury NC.

MOHONEY! My favorite supervisor of all time! I knew something was wrong when I attempted several times to call you in the past years. You always bragged about how many kids you had and I always stated that your funeral will be the one I wanted to attend with my video cam! Big Daddy as you would call yourself! The plaque that I had made for you is a symbol of how much we cared and a great man you were. You will be missed in this world Redd Foxx😂
