Obituary For Richard Walker

Mr. Richard Edward Walker was born January 27, 1949, to the late Bessie Walker Gilmer and William Charles Walker. He entered rest on November 9, 2021, at 6:10 am.

Richard was a native of Greensboro, NC and was a high school graduate in the Guilford County School System. (He received his secondary education in the Guilford County/ Greensboro School System)

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother (Thomas Grady Walker), sister (Lillie Mae Guy) and significant other of over 30 years (Debbie Satterfield Scruggs).

Richard is survived by two daughters, Jacqueline Hale (Don) of Chesterfield, Virginia, and April Dekpoh (Michael) of Canada, 5 grandchildren (Jacquelyn Smith, Danniel Benner, Austin Wynn) and 2 Dekpoh children, 3 great-grandchildren (Carter Benner, Kingsley Benner and Landon Smith, sisters-Carolyn Odell of Augusta, GA, Catherine Hobbs of Charlotte, NC; one brother, Jimmy Walker of Greensboro, NC, aunt (Nina Haynie) of Greensboro, NC, mother-in-law Annie Mae Satterfield of Greensboro NC. and a special companion Ms. Duff Benjamin to include a long host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Richard Walker was baptized as a youth and joined St. John Baptist Church in Climax, NC. He worked for over 40 years, mainly as an independent long-distance truck driver. Richard formed “The Foot Stompers Band” over 15 years ago. The Foot Stompers Band traveled throughout NC. In the band community Richard was known as Rick, Ricky, Ricardo, Edward, and Richard, as he answered to all these names whole heartedly.

A Celebration of life service will be held at 12:30 pm on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at St. John Baptist Church 4203 Alston Drive, Climax NC. A viewing will be held Friday, November 12, 2021 from 4-6pm at Cassie Coote- Brown Memorial Chapel at Perry J. Brown Funeral Home.
