Mr. Robert Willis Baylor, Sr., passed away Monday, December 15, 2025, at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.
Robert Willis Baylor, Sr., the first of seven children (four boys and three girls), was born on August 20, 1941, to Josephine (Reed) and Robert Baylor in Baltimore, MD. After a brief illness, Robert went home to be with the Lord on December 15, 2025. He is survived by his devoted wife, three sons and daughters-in-laws, ten grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and three sisters.
Robert lived a full and purposeful life. He received his education at Bragg Elementary School, Salis High School, and the former Morgan State College. While in college, he enrolled in the ROTC program, which led to his service in the United States Army. Robert proudly served for three years and was honorably discharged.
At an early age, Robert accepted Christ as his Savior at Shiloh Baptist Church under the pastorate of Peter Jennings. There, he participated in the junior choir and served in various church ministries. As he matured in faith, he became a deacon, a devoted Bible student, and a man who truly loved the Word of God. Robert remained a faithful member of Shiloh Baptist Church until 2006, when he relocated to North Carolina and joined Wells Memorial COGIC. At Wells Memorial, he assisted the Sunday School superintendent and, alongside his wife Margaret, served as a marriage ministry leader while supporting many other church ministries. He became a beloved father figure to many within the church family.
On December 28, 1962, Robert married Margaret (Pope) Baylor, and three sons were born from their union. Robert was an excellent provider who firmly believed it was his responsibility to care for his wife and family. He was a strong role model and a hands-on parent, raising his sons to be men and even coaching their sports teams.
Robert and Margaret lived in Maryland for 63 years before joyfully relocating to North Carolina to be closer to their grandchildren. He faithfully attended every milestone in their lives—especially graduations—and took great joy in being present for sporting events, school activities, weddings, baptisms, dedications, and more.
Robert was the driving force within his family, particularly among his siblings and first cousins. Known for his strong work ethic, he taught his sons the value of hard work from an early age, emphasizing the importance of earning their own money. It was not uncommon for him to hold a
part-time job in addition to his full-time employment. Robert believed in working hard and fully enjoying the rewards of that labor. Among his greatest pleasures were the many cruises he shared with his loving wife, creating cherished memories together.
Robert Willis Baylor, Sr. leaves a lasting legacy of faith, integrity, and unwavering devotion to family. He leaves to mourn a loving wife, Margaret Baylor, 3 sons: Robert (Karen), James (Sheralyn), Marvin (Cyleta), 10 grandchildren: Michael (Rebecca), Gabriel, Sarah, Rachel, Ashley (Vincent), Naveh (Bashar), Isaiah, David (Erica), Delontae, Dejah (Cordell), and adopted grandchild East Dockery; 10 great-grandchildren, 3 sisters: Vicky, Sophie, and
Robin, 2 sisters-in-law: Regina Baylor and Carletta Baylor. He was a man who led by example, through hard work, service to others, and a deep love for God’s Word. His presence brought strength, wisdom, and encouragement to all who knew him. As a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Robert’s life reflected steadfast love, guidance, and sacrifice. His influence will continue to live on through the generations he nurtured, the lives he touched, and the faith he so faithfully modeled.
