Shocked and deeply saddened by his sudden passing, Ronald Terry Sandlin (known to most as Ron), was called home unexpectedly on January 6, 2023.
Ron was born in Jacksonville, North Carolina in August 1951 and graduated from Jacksonville Senior High School. Shortly after graduating, he moved to Greensboro. Ron enjoyed his job at HAECO Americas, where he was a dedicated employee for 26 years.
Ron followed in his late grandparents’ footsteps (George and Sophia Sandlin) and was a lifelong believer in God. Beginning at an early age, he was active in church and was honored to serve as a deacon for over 3 decades. Ron was a member of New Zion Missionary Baptist Church for over 21 years, where he enjoyed a special relationship with his pastor, Reverend William F. Wright, Jr. As an active member of the church, he enjoyed being a deacon and prayer warrior. Ron’s gift from God for leading prayer will long be remembered and cherished.
He had a special bond with his identical twin brother, Donald. Growing up, they were always together riding bicycles which eventually led to a desire to be race car drivers, which they sometimes acted out on Highway 258 in Jacksonville. The wonderful and fun memories they created in their young lives were treasured for a lifetime.
One of his most favorite pastimes was reading and studying God’s word, which he did daily. Ron had a special place in his heart for his daughter and grandchildren, and proudly talked about their activities and accomplishments.
Ron was preceded in death by his brother, Donald J. Sandlin. He is survived by his loving wife, Deborah; his daughter, Okema, his mother, Grace M. Cummings, six grandchildren (Jayme, Sydni, Landon, Maci, Blessing and Zechariah), and three great grandchildren; his sisters, Denese Giles and Arlett (Paul) Brown and their families. He also leaves to cherish his memories a host of other relatives, friends, and his ‘HAECO family’.

I grew up with Ronald and his twin brother Donald in Jacksonville, NC. We grew up in First Baptist Church. Ronald also lived in our neighborhood so we played together as children. When he moved to Greensboro he reunited with my family. Donald was raised in a Christian home by his grandparents, Deacon George, and Sophia Sandlin. He did not stray from his upbringing and united with the church here in Greensboro. Ronald will be missed with kind words and sweet soul.
