Ruth Kathleen Gordon was born on June 1,1933 in Greensboro, NC to the late Fannie Henrietta and William Joseph Taylor. She was the 7th of 8 children.
Ruth, better known as "Kat", grew up in Greensboro, NC in the Mt Zion community adjacent to Mt. Zion AME Church and school. Her grandparents, Robert and Susan Harrell lived "through the woods". The Taylor family moved to Boston, MA. in 1945.
Kat attended public schools at Mt. Zion, James P. Timilty Jr. High School, Bandice High School before
transferring to Girls Trade High School. She also attended Boston Conservatory of Music. Kat had a beautiful voice and loved to sing.
Once residing in Boston, the Taylor family joined Grant AME Church where Kat accepted Christ into her life at an early age and was an active member of the choir and later served as a Trustee.
Kat met and married Donald B. Washington, Sr. in 1952. Of that union, three children were born: Susan, Donald, Jr. and Mark Washington.
Kat later found love again and married Robert W. Gordon, July 25,1966. Of that union: George Gordon was born, and she shared a bonus son Bruce Lewis. They are now a blended family.
Kat was employed and retired from The Division of Health Services Delivery as a secretary in Boston and worked after retirement at TWC tax office in Greensboro. Once Kat and Bob retired, they relocated to Greensboro, NC and built their dream home. Kat and Bob transferred their church membership to Mt. Zion AME Church in Greensboro, NC.
Kat loved to travel the world. Some of her many travels consisted of Europe, Aruba, and the Caribbean with family and friends. In recent time, she spent her time with new friends, exercising, watching movies, reminiscing, and spending time outdoors.
Kat was active at Mt. Zion AME Church. She served on the Susan A. Harrell Missionary Society and was a member of the church choir. She loved God, her church, and her family dearly.
