Ms. Susie Mae Johnson, passed away Thursday, February 13, 2025 at her residence.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, March 8, 2025 12:30 pm Cassie Coote-Brown Memorial Chapel at Perry J. Brown Funeral Home 909 East Market Street Greensboro, North Carolina. Visitation 12 pm.

Obituary Susie Mae Johnson, affectionately called “Nana” by family and friends, was born on October 3, 1947, in Chesterfield, South Carolina to the late George Johnson and Bertha Davis-Johnson. Our beloved mother passed away on February 13, 2025.

The matriarch of our family, Susie migrated from South Carolina to Greensboro, North Carolina, where she established her dreams and built a fruitful legacy. Along her journey, she lovingly gave birth to three children — Gloria Johnson, the late Morrise Johnson, and Don Johnson — to whom she proudly dedicated her life.

Although her parents passed away when she was young, Susie possessed a strong drive to succeed. With great tenacity, she graduated from high school and went on to attend college. Throughout her career, she fulfilled her aspirations, ultimately retiring from Banner Pharmacaps, Inc., where she was a well-respected, valuable, and loyal printer/inspector.

Our treasured mother was a faithful Christian. She was a devoted member of Mt. Olivet AME Zion Church until she was no longer able to actively attend. However, her absence from the building never hindered her devotion to the Lord — she maintained her walk of faith in Jesus Christ in every way possible.

Our family’s gem lived a life that served as a beacon of light among her family and community. She was an extremely loving and giving soul, leaving a lasting impact on all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She was very family-oriented and cherished spending time with her loved ones.

She was an incredibly hard worker, and in her free time, she enjoyed watching television and talking on the phone. Anyone who spoke with her knew that when she said, “Child, let me let you go,” the conversation was far from over — this farewell would repeat several times before the call truly ended.

Susie loved to cook and showcase her exquisite culinary skills, but her true passion was baking, especially for her sister, Barbara Newman. She would often say, “I have to make my sister her chocolate cake so she can eat it with her cup of coffee while she watches Victor.” She took immense pride in her cooking, and everyone who tasted her food thoroughly enjoyed it.

Her wisdom, strength, and grace made her our role model. Her life’s journey set a precedent of excellence for future generations to follow. She loved all her family and friends dearly, and we would like to say: Momma, job well done. You are loved and will truly be missed!
