Thelma Hannah Hayes Alston, 92, of Greensboro, NC, passed away Friday June 24,2022. Thelma was born in Sampson County, NC on July 21, 1929 to Felton and Madie Hayes. Thelma attended Guilford County Schools.
Thelma was married to Herbert Hoover Alston on June 20,1948; they were married for 70 years before his passing in 2018 . Thelma worked at Morgan and Son Chicken Poultry and later retired from Catering by Ellen. She spent her years as a member of St. James Baptist Church where she was part of The Will Green Gospel Choir.
Thelma is survived by her loving children: Patricia Alston, Virginia Sturdivant (Donnie), Betty Jean Williamson, Denise Alston, and Timothy Alston all of Greensboro, NC. Sharon Alston of Butner, NC. Stepchildren: Teresa Wright (Pathetty), Keith Chapman (Alicia), and Eric Chapman (Tanisha) all of Newberry, SC. Along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and other family members and friends.
Thelma is preceded in death by her parents, Felton and Minnie Hayes, Husband: Herbert Alston, Brother: Joseph Hayes and Sister Minnie Hayes. Son: Herbert Hoover Alston, Jr. Daughter: Thelma Alston, two special uncle's Vasco and Charlie Hayes, and granddaughter Juanita La Vern Cauthen and her best friend, Christine Emerson
Special acknowledgements to her Daughters Patricia Alston, Denise Alston and her Granddaughter, Alicia Alston for being her caregivers in the last days of her life.
